INDOOR RECESS: BIG AND LITTLE DUTIES: *
(a). Help students play by the rules with games in the classroom. (b). Encourage students to share and take their turn. (c). Help students clean-up toys and classroom at the end of recess. (d). Leadership student will find the teacher on duty in case of an emergency.
OUTDOOR RECESS: BIG AND LITTLE DUTIES: *
DUTIES: (a). Pick up outdoor vest and any outdoor equipment you want to use and place it in the black kit bag. Everything you need will be in the Equipment Room by the back door. (b). Encourage students to use the playground equipment in a safe manner. 1. No running on the pebbles. 2. No playing tag on the pebbles, ask students to play tag on the grass. 3. Go down the slide on their bottom, feet first. 4. No running up the slide. 5. When swinging on the monkey bars they must have both hands on the bar. (c). Play games with the students on the pavement and on any other area of K-2 playground. Help students learn to ask other students to play in a social setting. (d). When the bell rings, please put all the equipment back in the black bag and return it to the Equipment Room. (e). If at any point a student is not listening and being disruptive, find a teacher on duty and explain the situation. I want you to have a great experience doing this activity and if you need assistance please ask a duty teacher for help.
HEALTHY SNACK DELIVERIES: *
Duties: (a). Be available at 9:45 am on the 3rd Thursday of the month. (b). Meet in the kitchen at the above mentioned time. (c). Organize and deliver healthy snacks in a timely fashion to each room by 10:00am. (d). Organize delivery bins in the kitchen as they are returned from classrooms.
LIBRARY: *
Duties: (a).Sign books in and out of the library. (b). Sort books and put books on the shelves. (c). Help students find books in the library. (d). Tiding shelves. (e). Gather books from all the homeroom classes. (f). Perusing new books/read new books and give your opinion. (g). Decorating the library.
STUDENT LEADERS FOR INTRAMURALS GRADE 4 AT BIG RECESS ONLY IN THE GYM *
Duties: (a). Report to the gym at 11:15-11:45 am on Day 5 (b). Help organize equipment for an activity planned by the teacher. (c). Participate and help students play by the rules. (d). Help put equipment away at the end of recess. (e). Eventually organize and run an activity of your choice with the students under the supervision of Ms. O’Shea/Mrs. MacPherson
GRADE 1 and GRADE 2 SOCCER REF'S *
Duties: (a). Pick up vests in the Equipment room by the back door.(b). Take out pennies, whistle, pylons and soccer ball. (c). Pick and organize teams in a fair and respectful manner. (d). Do not stack teams, you are there to help them learn and respect the game. (e). Grade 1 will play on Day 1, 3 , 5 and they will use the field next to the chain link fence. (f). The out of bounds is when the ball hits the fence it is a proper throw in. The student must have 2 hands on the ball and throw from behind their head. Keep in mind that they are not allowed to take their foot off the ground. (g) If the ball rolls into the other field it is a proper throw in. (h). Grade 2 will use the same field on Day 2, 4, 6 (i). Encourage the fielders to not use their hands, the only one who can use their hands is the goalie. (j). If it is a hand ball, just let the other team have a free kick from where the infraction happened. (k). Any ball that goes beyond the goal posts will be goalie's ball. We are not doing corner kicks. (l). Return pennies, whistle, pylons and soccer balls to the equipment room at the end of your shift.
COUNSELLING PROJECTS *
Duties: (a). School-wide or classroom projects. 1. Putting up posters. 2. Helping with classroom presentations to younger grades. 3. Part of a committee to help come up with ideas for projects, example anti-bullying. 4. Like to do presentations, write and act in short plays.
OUTDOOR GARDEN *
Duties: (a). Pick up duty vest in the Equipment room by the back door. (b). Inside the Garden shed are several boxes called "Discovery Kits." This is the only thing the students will be allowed to use from the shed. (c). Make sure you return all the Kits you use to the shed at the end of your shift. (d). The Garden is an area for exploring and looking at nature, there will be No running and playing games. (e). Your job is to encourage students to be co-operative and work with others students in this area. You can also encourage them to use and explore the various items in the Discovery Kits. (f). If you have a problem with students listening to the directions and/or running you may ask them to leave. (g). If you arrive at the Garden and it is locked, go into the office and get the Secretary to page Christine.
SIGN OUT AND SIGN IN EQUIPMENT AT BIG AND LITTLE RECESS *
Duties: (a). Come down to the Equipment Room at Big and Little recess to help sign out equipment for the students in Grades 3-6. (b). Get the student who is signing out the equipment to print their name on the "sign out" sheet so we can keep track of what equipment is going outside. (c). Make sure when the student returns the equipment after the bell that you check off their name. (d). If at the end of the recess, the student did not return the equipment that they had borrowed then they will not be able to take something out the next recess. (e). Report to Ms. O'Shea if someone is not returning the equipment.
