Other ideas: Regarding thoughtful gifts: Encouraging consumerism isn’t the only risk with give-aways.  Possibly worse is encouraging an expectation of reward for green behaviors.  Advice on motivating people
(e.g. Dan Pink’s “Drive”) suggests we might have more success if we give people skills and experiences.  I spent part of my childhood next to a zoo, and a pony ride was far more motivating than a toy or treat.
 
Are there skill-trainings or experiences in the price range of give-aways ($1-$10 per person) or prize drawings ($20-$500)?  I’m trying to figure out what’s the equivalent of a pony ride for our students:

EV use for a week
kayak lessons
canoe trips
wilding skills
tech repairs
life hacking
garden plots
design/plant-a-bed with your favorite food/flowers/colors
