    Who Are We?

We are the Canadian Roots Exchange (CRE), a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth who believe that in order to bridge the gap between Canada's peoples, we need to become educated and aware of the teachings, triumphs, and daily realities of Indigenous communities. The Canadian Roots Exchange is a registered charity (registration number 832296602RR0001) that provides Indigenous based leadership, learning and reconciliation experiences to every youth that participates in our programs. CRE organizes three main types of activities: exchange programs, workshops and conferences. Central to CRE programming is the need to bring together Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth. Regardless of the activity, we believe that having dialogue is necessary to foster understanding and reconciliation. The Program: Canadian Roots Exchange now offers a 16 week transformational leadership program. The program is a collective cross-cultural bonding experience with local youth from diverse backgrounds that will partake in bi-weekly programming that will focus on reconciliation, solidarity and decolonization. The program facilitates discussion on issues of identity, community, inclusion, and xenophobia including Islamophobia. Hosted by the Canadian Roots Exchange team and local community members, participants are provided an opportunity to learn Canadian history from an Indigenous perspective. Through interactive workshops, sharing circles, and field trips, participants will also have the opportunity to create a short video and a self-published Zine exploring their reflections. Free of charge, Youth between the ages of 18 and 29 are encouraged to apply, and selected participants are required to attend bi-weekly programming from September to April.
