We provide FREE tutoring to at-risk students in failing schools in Chicago. The students we work with are on free and reduced lunch, and attend a school that has failed to meet state benchmark test scores for consecutive years.
We use engaging, hands on activities to teach reading and math. Our tutors work with a group of 6-12 students, using curriculum and materials that we provide, which stresses teamwork, imagination, and critical and creative thinking skills. We also pay tutors to go through our online training so they know exactly how to execute the program.
Interested candidates must have at least 60 credit hours and be able to commit to the after-school schedule at one of our tutoring sites.
Tutoring programs run for a total of about 40 TOTAL hours through the month of January, February, March, April, and May. Depending on the program, they run anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week, 1 to 2 hour sessions. So, it is a total of about 3-5 hours of work per week for 8-15 weeks.
Please read each question very carefully and answer to the best of your ability. We want to make sure that your availability is solid in order to match you up with a tutoring group. The last thing we want is for a group of students to be passed around from tutor to tutor. These at-risk students need as much stability as possible, and having a tutor continue through the entire program is extremely important.
