UUP Space Available is an official “forgiveness” of all tuition (excluding fees) for one course taken at Binghamton University per semester, including winter and summer session
with a maximum of four courses per year. Courses may not overlap. You must be a UUP-represented employee to be eligible for the program.
IMPORTANT: If you are taking course at another SUNY school, please verify before proceeding with this form if they have their own Space Available Application they require you to complete by checking their website or calling their HR or Registrar's office.
PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR COURSE REGISTRATION PRIOR TO SUBMITTING YOUR SPACE AVAILABLE APPLICATION.
YOU WILL RECEIVE AN AUTOMATED EMAIL CONFIRMING YOUR APPLICATION SUBMISSION.
The applicant must be admitted (or readmitted) to Binghamton University on a matriculated or non-matriculated basis. Applicant must be in registered status for the course listed on the Space Available application form.
Please note, prior to registration, it is recommended that the applicant contact the instructing department’s appropriate representative (head faculty instructor of course or Dean’s Office) to verify the viability of space available for that course.
COURSE PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY: IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO SEEK INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COURSE ON A SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS PRIOR TO SUBMITTING THIS APPLICATION TO HUMAN RESOURCES. Employees are expected to notify their supervisors prior to taking a course using the space available program. If the course is scheduled to meet at a period during the employee’s normal professional obligation, the employee must charge accruals or make arrangements with management approval to make up time taken away from the normal workday.
COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE FILED WITH HUMAN RESOURCES BY THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASSES.
Upon establishing a student/employee’s eligibility, Human Resources will inform the applicant and contact Student Accounts, after the end of the first week of the semester, to apply a tuition credit equal up to four (4) credit hours. Please allow a minimum of two weeks for the credit to appear on your account. Once approved, go to Student Accounts Office and immediately pay your required student fees in order to avoid a late payment fee or cancellation of your registration for non-payment. The applicant for the Space Available course enrollment must pay all fees other than tuition. A summary of required fees can be found at
https://www.binghamton.edu/student-accounts/tuition-fees/.
Any outstanding obligations to Binghamton University also must be cleared before the registration process can be completed.
