Artist Facilitator Career Development Residency Application

The mission of AWOL All Walks of Life, Inc. is to promote and provide self-awareness through the use of poetry, hip-hop and life. This mission is met by providing youth at-risk with authentic and engaging arts and technology programs in Theatre & Performing Arts, Sound Design and Music Recording, and Film & Photography. AWOL programs encourage respect, creativity, education and most of all non-violence.

AWOL All Walks of Life Inc.is a non-profit organization that is currently looking for local artist for our Arts and Techonolgy After School Programs at both our Savannah and Atlanta locations for the FY 2013-2014 season. This is an Artist Facilitator Career Development Residency position and requires you to work with youth in the evenings 2-4 days a week and some Saturdays. For the past 20 years AWOL has worked with hundreds of local, regional and national artist to provide high quality arts based education programs for youth at-risk. Artist with the ability to facilitate and spark learning among youth populations are in high demand throughout the nation. AWOL has served as a valuable resource and springboard for many artist leading to presentations of their work to audiences of 3000+ visitors and community members. AWOL’s lead artist staff have a combined 30+ years experience in the art of instruction, education and arts administration.

AWOL invites you to be a part of an exciting career development opportunity by joining our 2013-2014 Artist Facilitator Career Development Residency ! Selected artist must be motivated, quick learners with the ability to adjust in a fast paced environment. Artist will be trained to teach introductory and intermediate material to youth populations and would be responsible for the organization and management of youth services utilizing AWOL’s Arts & Youth Curriculum Guide as a resource to support the presentation of the work.

We are currently looking for the following types of artist:
Theater professional (Assistant Directors, Choreographers, Stage Managers, Technical Theater Production)
Sound & Audio Engineers (hip-hop and R&B artist, singers, songwriters, producers, promoters, ect.)
Film & Video editors, producers, directors
Photographers

Selected Artist will receive:
Opportunity to build artist repertoire through professional mentoring and training

Access to nearly 100+ engaged creative minds ages 7-18
New skills in the art of teaching
The ability to engage people in a learning experience guided by art
Learned skills in organizational systems and people management
Ability to deliver your work with the highest level of business acumen
Professional photography of all work in web based format
Professional video of work in DVD and web based format
Professional letters of recommendation of your work for use in future endeavors
Stipend of $500-$1500 (varies based upon selected program and artistic genre)


Essential Artist Facilitator Functions:
Prepare assessment materials in accordance with AWOL program/project requirements.
Must have reliable transportation and flexible schedule
Must be available during afternoon/evening hours (depends on site)
Must be available for entire length of program (24-36 weeks)
Implement lesson plans to deliver practical and theoretical instruction in a particular artistic discipline with a focus on helping youth understand the skills and personal responsibility they will need to foster within themselves in order to succeed in a creative field.
Ability to promote and ensure a safe, respectful learning environment
High level of organization and management skills.
Ability to deliver high-quality projects against tight deadlines.
Experience with web, video,social media platforms and Technical Theater .
Ability to supervise and engage students at one time.
Stage and Project Management experience a plus

Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
1. Working knowledge in a relevant creative field to create writing samples.
2. Ability or willingness to learn how to effectively teach and manage youth ages 6-18 yrs old.
3. Ability or willingness to learn how to work within a collaborative environment.
4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Eligibility:
- Senior level undergraduate students, current Masters level students; MFA graduates and/or practicing artist with a current body of work that has been regionally or nationally recognized.
- Experience working as an instructor with youth or a willingness to do so.
