Multicultural Student Development Grant Application

The mission statement for the Office of Multicultural Student Development (MSD) clearly speaks to our goal of aiding multicultural students’ growth and skill development. To this end, MSD has established a process for awarding grants to individuals and recognized student clubs for educational or developmental activities that take place at Appalachian or at other sites. These activities include cultural festivals and leadership conferences that focus on social justice issues or the leadership development of multicultural students. The following policies have been established to govern this process. Please carefully read the information below.

Types of Grants:

Individual Enrichment Grants
 Dollar limit will be set by committee per academic year
 Only for reimbursing travel, lodging and
registration fees.
 Must provide detailed list of anticipated
expenses, registration confirmation,
and event agenda.

Group Enrichment Grants
 Dollar limit will be set by committee per academic year
 For travel: only for reimbursing travel,
lodging, and registration fees
 Must provide detailed list of anticipated
expenses, registration confirmation for
each attendee, and event agenda.
 For campus events: only for
reimbursing of money for grocery food or catered food, entertainment,
speakers, decorations, advertising
supplies, and staffing of events
 Must provide detailed list of anticipated
expenses, detailed advertising plan, and
detailed program agenda.

Grant Policies:

1. The Multicultural Roundtable Grant Committee will be the governing body for the enrichment grants. Grant recipients must receive majority vote from the Committee.
2. When requesting money, you will have to set up a meeting with a MSD representative.
3. Grants will not be awarded for service projects or activities that are solely for fundraising.
4. Grant recipients must adhere to all university policies and specifically policies regarding traveling on university
business and submitting proper documentation for reimbursements.
5. Grant recipients must adhere to all university policies regarding the reservation and use of campus spaces,
resources and services.
6. Upon receiving approval for a grant, recipients must attend a consultation with MSD staff to receive training on
proper documentation submission for reimbursement.
7. Grant application packets must be received by Friday at 5pm every week Multicultural Roundtable meeting.
8. All receipts must be turned in within two weeks of the event or the award is rescinded and applicant forfeits
access to grants for following academic year.
9. For leadership development activities, applying individual or group must agree to present what they have learned
at a Multicultural Roundtable meeting as well as a second venue to be approved by MSD staff.
10. Must provide a proposed program agenda with detailed list of anticipated expenses. If this is not available,
information from immediate prior year can be substituted for annual events.
11. Grants will only be awarded for food, film rights, speakers/performers/artisans, and advertising supplies.
