Join the European "Save the Bees Coalition"
This year, in 2017, we have a great new opportunity to achieve a full ban on the three bee-killing neonicotinoids (imidacloprid, clothianidin, thiamethoxam) insecticides whose use was already partly restricted by the European Commission in 2013.
Since the ban, dozens of scientific studies have highlighted that the current partial ban was not sufficient to protect bees as well as entire ecosystems that are affected by these highly toxic and persistent pesticides
Following these scientific developments, the European Food Safety authority published new conclusions in 2015 and 2016 and indicated that neonicotinoids pose a high risk to bees. The European Commission has thus no other choice than to propose a ban on all remaining authorised uses of these substances.
At EU-level, NGOs are already advocating to ask for a full ban. However, whether or not the Commission acts forcefully will depend on the EU’s member states as they can block such a ban at EU level. This is why we propose to build a strong Bee Coalition at both EU and national levels. We need a strong action from the civil society across the entire EU. Being a member of the “Save the Bees Coalition” would allow us to share with you the latest information we have from the situation at EU-level and coordinate on joint actions at national levels. We would provide you with campaigning material as well. As mentioned before, it is up to the Member States to take the final decision to approve the Commission’s proposal to ban neonicotinoids or to reject it. When joining the coalition, the name of your organisation will appear on the webpage dedicated to our action.
