Participation - Cross Country is an extramural sport at the Jr. High Level. It consists of 3-4 practices per week and 4 meets and a championship throughout the season. Practices will begin August 28th and will start at 3:00 p.m. in the gym and last no more than an hour. Practices will typically be on Tuesday-Friday, but are subject to change. Runners are strongly encouraged to run on their own (SAFELY!!) or with friends on the days practice is not held, remembering to take 1-2 rest days off from running each week. Please do not bring headphones (or other valuables) to practice for safety reasons, you will not be able to wear them during practice.
Eligibility – In order to participate in a meet, athletes need to have a current physical (good for one year) AND participation form on file with the coaches. If you participated in track this past spring and your physical is still less than a year old, that will count. If you get a physical now and participate in track this next spring, that physical will count for both. The physical needs to be on the UHSAA physical form.
Meets – The meet schedule is on the bottom of this page. All meets except for the championship meet will begin at 5 p.m. A bus will be provided for away meets. On meet days, athletes should be dressed and ready to leave AFJH by 4 p.m. Students are expected to ride the bus to and from each meet. Meets will consist of a 2-mile race. Awards will be given for the first three finishers in each grade / gender. More information will be given as we approach the dates for the meets.
Cross Country Activity Fee - All athletes must pay a $25.00 activity fee in order to participate in Cross Country. Students must pay this fee prior to the first meet. You can pay online or at the Financial Office at the school. Checks should be made payable to American Fork Junior High School. A team shirt (optional) is available for $13.
Insurance - Alpine School District policy is that students should have personal health care insurance to participate on a team. If you do not have insurance, very inexpensive school activity coverage is available. See a coach for an insurance packet if you need one.
Academic Eligibility - You must maintain a 2.0 GPA with no more than 1 F in order to compete. Grades will be checked before the championship meet for eligibility. Eligibility will be checked by an administrator prior to each meet.
Uniforms - A optional team race shirt will be available for purchase and will be used for meets. A good running shoe is necessary. Utah Run in American Fork offers team discount of 20% if you need new shoes, etc. Boys Coaches Girls CoachesCoach Houle firstname.lastname@example.org Coach Adams email@example.comCoach Walsh firstname.lastname@example.org Coach Packer email@example.com
