Google Docs now allows you to view and edit your documents offline, without an internet connection. To do all of this, Google Docs uses Google Gears, an open source browser extension that adds offline functionality directly to the browser. You can access Google Docs offline by typing http://docs.google.com into your browser or by clicking on the desktop shortcut that is downloaded during the installation process.
Here's an overview of which functions you can do in Google Docs while you're offline (the 'X' means the function is available).

* Although you can't create new documents while offline, you can open a few blank files before you go offline.
Note: if you're using offline with any version of Internet Explorer and signing in to https://docs.google.com (rather than http://docs.google.com), you won't be able to view your spreadsheets offline. They'll appear in the Docs list but will be grayed out and not accessible offline. As a workaround, we recommend using a different browser with Google Docs if you have offline enabled and prefer signing in to https://docs.google.com.
