Singing and poetry is legal within any introduction. Holding the script in the introduction is optional. Comments may also be necessary for transition if the students elects to do several shorter cuttings or items from more than one work. 9 | Debate 3 | Judge hiring protocol for State Debate Tournament. | For the state tournament, all teams must furnish one qualified judge for every 1-3 debaters/teams entered in the tournament for LD and PF debate. Judges are supplied by type of debate (LD or PF.) Fractions of judge requirement may not cross between divisions. For example: A school has 2 LD and 1 PF team. They are expected to supply 2 judges for the state tournament. Additionally, if a school has 2 LD debaters they are responsible to supply a full judge. The head coach is expected to be in the judge pool as they are the most qualified individual to judge the tournament. Head coaches can be exempted if they have a certified, trained judge who is eligible to judge Division I. To be used in Division I, judges must be at least in their third year out of high school. It is expected that judges in Division I have substantial experience and training in judging debate. Judges will be available to hire through the tournament at the usual rate for the host school. These judges will be arranged through the State Debate Tournament Manager.
