8 - DebateState QualificationRegular season tournaments may be one or two-days with a minimum of three preliminary rounds offered in all divisions. Only preliminary rounds will count towards state qualification. Prelim pairings may be determined by the tournament manager and hosting school. Regular season debate tournaments shall record student win/loss qualifier points to be used for state tournament quarterfinal bracket seeding (Win = 3pts, Loss = 1pt). A qualifier link will be managed by the NDHSAA Debate Rep, and shared with all coaches, and state manager. Any tabulation errors need to be communicated to the debate rep and tournament manager during the tabulation correction window for verification and correction. Tabulation sheets and schedule must be sent or tabroom.com access provided to the debate rep at the conclusion of the tournament. • Qualifier points will be awarded at ND school sponsored tournaments that have a minimum of 5 ND Schools competing. Out of state competitions are not eligible for ND State qualifier points. Debate in that division. In PF the rounds must have been completed with the same partner. (e.g. must have competed 21 rounds in Div. II LD in order to be eligible for Div. II LD, cannot be eligible for other divisions) Should weather affect the attendance of schools. The total number of rounds required for consideration will be reduced by 4 rounds for each weather occurrence. Students must compete in 50% of offered rounds in the division in which they qualify. (Should weather affect the attendance of schools, the number of offered rounds at that tournament will not be calculated into the percentage for the school/s unable to attend). Coaches will have the discretion to move students in events and divisions but must declare which event/division a student would like to be considered in for state qualification in by January 16th by emailing the debate representative and state manager, if the student has competed in more than one event or division during the season. Failure of a coach to declare a division for a student will result in only being eligible for Division 1 in the last event competed in before the declaration deadline. Should a student compete in more than 75% off all offered rounds in their declared division, the tournament with the lowest winning percentage will be removed from that student's percentage total. • State Debate shall have two divisions (I & II) of LD and PF competition, quarterfinal brackets shall be seeded by regular season rounds win/loss record, or win/loss power ranking based on point system (W=3pts, L=1pt; Total Points/Total Rounds) • Should a power ranking tie occur for State quarterfinal placement, the tie shall be broken on these criteria: 1. If competitors met head-to-head, winner receives preference 2. Competitor with most number rounds receives preference 3.
