Students will be demonstrating reading comprehension, research skills, and presentation skills.
I want students to understand that there are various ways and modalities through which to present knowledge gained.
Conduct research. Think critically about what this research means. Make, enact, and monitor his or her plan to present this knowledge in a modality of his or her choosing.
Communication, Technology, Authenticity
I will be redesigning this lesson to offer students open choice for process and product. I will also be allowing the students to work with students outside of his or her class to produce a product. Students will have a means to share products with an outside audience. I'm thinking about possible offering a digital event for students, friends, and parents to join and view project.
I need some support with Google Hangout.

I want my students to take what they have learned and put it to "real life" use for the remainder of the year. My students will either focus on our SS standards or CC standards.
I want my students to enjoy their learning and take ownership of the ideas that they have come up with.
I want my students to buy into the project and do something that interests them. I want them to really be proud of their project and the final outcome.
A. Personalization/Individualization/Differentiation B. Agency/Control/Ownership/Choice/Interest/ Passion E. Authenticity/Relevancy
The students will be presented with 5 different possible options that they can choose from to help guide their 6 week project.
I just need to sit down and try and map things out. I will need to create a generic skills rubric to help guide my students along the way.

Students need to know about the area and culture of Monte Alban.
They need to know historical significance of Mt. Alban.
They need to use the Language Arts skills of reading, understanding, writing and speaking in Spanish.
D. Collaboration
Collaborative technologies are being used. Students will post comments on Edmodo of 5-6 sentence paragraphs. They will then comment on two posts of other students. All of this is done in Spanish. If someone asks a student a question in their comment, then the student can answer the question, which counts as one of their comments.
No help is needed at this time.

Electromagnetic Spectrum
How the different wavelengths affect energy levels of the spectrum. How the waves are used or applied. Characteristics of the different types of waves and the applications.
Know what the electromagnetic spectrum is and understand the characteristics and applications of each wavelength.
explain why some EMG waves are more harmful than others.
Collaboration
Students will work in small groups of 2 or3 and will pick an application from a list of EM applications of the Electromagnetic Spectrum. They will investigate, identify and present to the class using their choice of presentation method how the particular wave is used or applied in everyday situations.
Areas of support would include giving students a rubric to follow along with acessibility to some form of technology

How to solve word problems with trig ratios and Pythagorean Theorem
How to set up the problem and find angles and sides in a real word problem
Set up the problem.
Solve the problem.
Apply it to the real life situation.
Teach the problem.
Critical Thinking
Have each group of students figure out a given word problem and teach it on video or other instructional technology tool.
We may not have the necessary technology to implement this in the best way.
What are some methods to upload/share the videos?
Are they allowed to use Youtube? Is there a simpler way?

Alcohol Note & The Effects on the Body
Know how alcohol affects various parts of your body
They need to understand why those affects occur and exactly what it does to each
They need to be able to explain how different things are affected, as well as each body part may look different due to the affects of alcohol.
Technology
I would still give the initial notes as related to alcohol, but then students would be responsible for learning and presenting the effects of alcohol on the human body. They could use Pic Collage and ThingLink to acocmplish this task.

Symbols can have different meanings based on personal experience, emotional connection, and context.
To react to symbols based on personal experience, emotional connection and context.
1. Prior to reading
2. After reading
Critical Thinking
Introductory Lesson:

Important symbols from the The Wall will be placed on a Padlet to allow students to respond with their initial reactions.

A second Padlet will be created at the end of the unit for students to reflect on their initial reactions compared to what they have learned about the symbols during the reading/discussion of The Wall.

• Seasonal change is caused by an unequal distribution of the Sun’s direct rays as a result of the Earth’s tilt and revolution.
• The seasons of Earth’s northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere are opposite (ie. When its winter in northern hemisphere, summer in southern hemisphere
• The Earth is currently titled at 23.5 degrees.
• A solstice is the moment in which the sun is at its highest or lowest altitude above the horizon.
• The equinox is when the sun is directly over the equator and day and night are of equal length.
• As latitude increases, light is more indirect and solar radiation is spread over a larger area. Thus, higher latitudes receive less concentrated solar radiation than latitudes closer to the tropics.
• Latitude affects climate due to amount of sunlight received.
The main reason for the seasons is the tilt of the Earth's axis and the Earth's revolution around the sun. Seasons are also affected by latitude since the equator receives the most direct sunlight and the areas closer to the pole receive less direct sunlight. Students should understand the difference between solstices and equinoxes.
• Compare and contrast the seasons as they relate to latitude.
• Model the seasons in relation to hemisphere, Earth’s tilt, and position of the sun.
Collaboration
Students read different articles about seasons based on Lexile levels and share their information with each other. In the past, students communicated in groups just by talking. To re-design the lesson, the students will now communicate their findings/information using technology. Students will share information on a blog. Students will share their info from their specific article individually. Then the students that read each article will collaborate to share their information and find out what is the most important. Then each group will present their info on a padlet so that all groups could see the shared information.
What would be the best way for the kids to share their info? I'm not sure if it would be a blog or a padlet? A google form? I'm not really sure!

Gathering, Displaying, and Analyzing Data
Students will know how to gather data and which graph would be appropriate in order to display the data. Students will know what a given graph is saying about a set of a data. Students will know how to find measures of center and measures of spread from a graph.
Students will understand how to report the number of observations from a given graph; how to describe the nature of the attribute under investigation, including how it was measured and its units of measurement; how to relate the choice of measures of center and variability to the shape of the data distribution and the context in which the data was gathered.
Students will be able to create, interpret, and compare data from histograms, dot plots, and box and whisker plots.
Communication
Instead of students communicating answers to me on their individual white boards, they will communicate via a Nearpod presentation. This way, students can communicate answers to me as well as to their classmates. I can show common mistakes and exemplar answers for all students to see rather than just having me tell the one student he has a mistake or has a perfect answer. Students will learn from their peers and improve upon how they answer. Hopefully they will also take ownership and pride in their answers knowing that everyone will see the responses.
I have not created a Nearpod presentation before so once I start working with the program, I may have some questions about how to put it together and share it with my students. I think I have an good overall idea of how it will work because I have seen the implementation of one and practiced with one in a math class this year.

3/25/2015 22:55:36Min-Ju JuanDaily routine
Students need to know basic Chinese sentence patterns and phrases, so they can talk or write about their daily routine.
Students need to understand other’s daily routine and schedule in oral and written Chinese.
Students need to be able to talk about and write down their daily routine in Chinese. (Speaking & Writing Skills) They also need to make plans to get together based on their schedules. (Listening, Reading & Thinking Skills)
Communication & Collaboration
I will redesign the lesson to offer students more or open choices of their presentations. I would also like them to communicate their friends outside of the class or school.
I need some support with Google Hangout or some other tools, so several students can communicate with everyone at the same time.

4/30/2015 8:32:13Natasha SutherlandAborigines
The Aborigines are native to Australia and were influenced by the Europeans through the diseases that came.
Some Aborigines still practice their ancient cultural traditions, but the majority of Australians are immigrants and are influenced by British culture.
I would like for the students to understand pieces of Aborigine culture and see how Aborigines culture is like the Native Americans.
Compare and contrast the Aborigines to the Native American history and culture.
Communicate with one another in pairs and with the class
Communication and Authenticity
I think instead of having a prezi with the information comparing and contrasting that I read to the students, I could make the Prezi accessible on my website and use a BlendSpace and have the students use their edmodo accounts to log-in and make ocmments to questions posted after the videos.
I don't think I have any, but I still need to work on developing this for the future to get it where I want it to be.

5/8/2015 11:47:03VizethannThemes from a Novel
I want students to know real-world application of a particular theme.
I want them to understand the main theme of a novel and how it relates to the real world.
Through creating their own whirligigs, creating a how-to video, exploring real world examples of people who have overcome devastating obstacles, and sharing their own journey so far in their own lives, students will explore the major theme of the novel Whirligig.
Adaptation and Constructive
We read the novel and answer questions which included comprehension, literary analysis, and inference. We also study vocabulary. We also touch briefly on theme. I have redesigned the lesson so that it is in a blog format where students can post their responses to teacher directed questions but they can also respond to each other's posts and add on to them. Also, I want the students to watch a video on how to make a whirligig and then create their own and videotape it to share with the class. I want them to reflect each step of the way on the process and the experience. Then I want them to relate the theme of redemption from the novel and apply this theme to real-world people and characters from literature. They will investigate, research, and discover real people who have overcome devastating obstacles to find redemption and actualization.
I just need to direct students to the right software that will help them achieve these goals.
