Descriptions of each type of rounds:

Case Rounds: PGY 1-2 and CCFP-EM, 15 mins. These case rounds are designed to be 1) a zebra diagnosis, or 2) a horse disguised as a zebra

Spot Diagnosis Rounds: PGY 1-2 and CCFP-EM, 15 mins. The purpose of these rounds is to have “rapid fire” diagnosis and management of common ED problems.

Best Cases of the Month: PGY 1-2 and CCFP-EM, 15 mins. emphasis will be on audience participation and discussion. There will be no slides for these rounds. They will also not be limited to the “block” of the current rounds and may be presented on any interesting case topic. These rounds can be done in lieu of the other 15 minute rounds listed in this document (Case Rounds, Spot Diagnosis Rounds)

Evidence/Technology Rounds: PGY 3, 25 mins. These rounds will discuss commonly used guidelines, approaches or algorithms as well as recently published guidelines and online tools to aid in clinical practice.

Chief Rounds: PGY 4-5, 25 mins. The purpose of these interactive rounds is for our PGY 4-5 residents to cover 1-2 interesting cases and have teaching points for all levels of training (PGY 1-5).

Resus Rounds: PGY 4-5, 25 mins. PGY 5 residents will develop 1 oral exam case, with case outline, and a rubric (as if it’s an exam). We will then split into small groups of 5 or 6 (mix of seniors and juniors) to run the case over 15 minutes each.

Resident Wellness Rounds: 50 mins. There’s no agenda, but there will be lots of space (physically, emotionally, mentally) to talk and spend time with each other.

Leadership Rounds: 50 mins. New to this year, we will organize rounds on leadership skills targeting topics such as communication, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, change management, and team building.

Beyond Rosen's: 2 x 25 min. These rounds are meant to illustrate case presentations that go beyond classic presentations provided in Rosen's and reflect memorable cases, diagnostic dilemmas, rural or remote medicine, diverse environmental conditions, inter-/intra-professional challenges or situations in which the management decisions go beyond our typical algorithms

Community: 50 min. These rounds will be delivered by staff physicians who work in community settings and will describe unique case presentations in which management decisions and disposition are affected by the resources available

Advocacy Rounds: 50 mins. In addition to our first Indigenous Health day, we will have multiple sessions throughout the year related to advocacy and healthcare of other marginalized populations.
