Pre-K teacher advice on my schedule: So here are my teacher thoughts and ideas, which work in the classroom cuz let’s face it, kids listen to their teachers waaay better than to their parents, right?!
It is a child’s “job” to play, so anything they can choose to do will get the most bang for your buck. If it doesn’t cover every subject that’s ok. If they are engaged, being creative and finding joy in their “work” than they will be learning and successful.
My idea would be to use times with “invitations” - basically setting out different activities to play and create. Even when you put a favorite toy in a different location with a special little something extra it will be very enticing. I came across this website I’ll list below that describes it for home use. Open ended toys, materials or games are great.
I know you guys have to get your own work done so you could make the instructions very clear that this is “their work time” and then later they could show you their work and you could participate together. And if they get their work done first than they can play anything they want. I say that pretty much every day in my classroom!

Day 1 Learning:
24
5 year olds have a hard time sticking to 30 min increments. But overall up till lunch was pretty good. Revisiting plan tonight to find ways to tweak.
25
Take breaks in between and play every half hour or so
26
Go for a walk at lunch every day
27
Let kids choose activities and forget about the order. Stick to main routine morning, snacks, lunch/walk
28
Create whiteboard checklist with the activities above and check off as you go, if complete all in one day they get a star. End of week treat for finishing at least 4 days
