8/13/20135 Hours 30 MinutesFirst day of mentorship involved one of my two mentors, Mrs. Timberlake teaching me how to effectively use simple equipment such as hand carts, palette jacks, and handyman dollies in order to move heavy furniture and appliances around with ease.5 Hours 30 Minutes1/7/20153 Hours 30 MinutesAt the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, a team of myself and other volunteers had cleared out the backroom/receiving area for new supplies to come in and be unloaded efficiently. Maintaining your store's receiving room is an important task that needs to be conducted during slow hours.27 Hours (17 Hours After Summer3 Hours 30 Minutes3/3/20154 Hours 30 MinutesI was given tips on how to properly train and work with friendly volunteers. Since no new faces came into the ReStore, however, I didn't actually get to train anyone, but I put a lot of time into preparation to what I was going to do for my Independent Component #2.76 Hours 30 Minutes (66 Hours 30 Minutes After Summer)4 Hours 30 Minutes

8/13/20131 HourThe second half of my first day of mentorship involved attending a meeting with the special events coordinator who gave volunteers the opportunity to speak about the organization as a whole at the Pomona Fairplex. She gave us useful tips on how to approach and inform people about Habitat for Humanity.6 Hours 30 Minutes1/8/20153 Hours 30 MinutesMore work was put onto the receiving area. However, a slight spanner was thrown into our works because occasionally some of us had to help customers to their cars with items or sweep up/vaccum around the store.30 Hours 30 Minutes (20 Hours 30 Minutes After Summer)7 Hours3/4/20153 HoursI got to train a teenage volunteer, Ashley, however, I didn't get to take pictures due to the fact of how busy the store got during this time of the day. She shadowed me and picked up on things I did. She and I dealt with customers who were confused on home goods and we both had a long day of labeling and pricing items.79 Hours 30 Minuters (69 Hours 30 Minutes After Summer)7 Hours 30 Minutes

8/14/20133 Hours 30 MinutesMy mentor Mr. Johnson, had talked to me about developing a gameplan over the course of my mentorship. He asked me, "What did you want to learn from me?" I told him I was interested in management and the basics of leadership and store management. He began to give me a few pointers and we worked together in coming up with a schedule.10 Hours1/9/20153 HoursFridays always appear to be slow, so the staff members and I had plenty of time to clean up some of the receiving room and put the products into their respective positions. Needless to say, more products came in and we had to some times deviate off of our current clean up and go do another task.33 Hours 30 Minutes (23 Hours 30 Minutes After Summer)10 Hours3/11/20156 Hours This was the day that Shelly, a volunteer, came onto the scene. I trained her in store policies (which are specified on my blog) and other organizational tasks such as pricing items, labeling items in the right departments, and measurements for furniture such as desks and wooden doors.85 Hours 30 Minutes (75 Hours 30 Minutes After Summer)13 Hours 30 Minutes

1/14/20152 Hours 30 MinutesAfter a five day hiatus, I had to work on the receiving room again, which was filled up with items. So it went from progress to now being completely cluttered, having to restart the entire process. However, it wasn't so bad because I learned very quickly that it's all about consistency.36 Hours (26 Hours After Summer)13 Hours3/24/20155 Hours 30 MinutesVolunteer, Louis came aboard the ReStore to dedicate a Tuesday to help out. He and I worked with customers and primarily unloaded items off of the delivery trucks. As he came, we worked on aspects such as customer service and prioritization of the store.91 Hours (81 Hours After Summer)19 Hours

1/21/20153 Hours 15 MinutesToday, I learned how, as a manager, whilst cleaning our area to keep co-workers productive and on task without being too overbearing on them. 39 Hours 15 Minutes (29 Hours 15 Minutes After Summer)16 Hours 15 Minutes3/28/20153 HoursThis was the day Sean came into the ReStore, however he was quite fluid in customer service and store policies due to being a former ReStore volunteer. However, there were still some things I could bring him up to speed on. One of them was safety and using store equipment effectively.94 Hours (84 Hours After Summer)22 Hours

During Senior Year Mentorship Hours1/22/20153 Hours 40 MinutesThe essence of teamwork was the main gem of knowledge today, along with cleaning up around the receiving room with a co-worker. 42 Hours 55 Minutes (32 Hours 55 Minutes After Summer)19 Hours 55 Minutes4/9/20152 Hours 30 MinutesLots of good teamwork today with Shelly at the ReStore. We both built up on the key store policies and put our customer service skills to practice.96 Hours 30 Minutes (86 Hours 30 Minutes After Summer)24 Hours 30 Minutes

DateHoursWhat I didTotal Hours1/27/20158 Hours 30 MinutesLots of very hands on learning occurred today, including an informative staff meeting that I had to privilege to observe in order to track the current status of the store. Mostly what we talked about in the meeting had to do with organizing the store and cleaning the receiving room, which definitely tied into my Independent Component #1.51 Hours 25 Minutes (41 Hours 25 Minutes After Summer)28 Hours 25 Minutes4/15/20152 Hours 45 MinutesI had debriefed with my both Ashley and Shelly to just see what I did right and what I did wrong during the normal volunteering day. They said I showed them the ropes of our ReStore pretty decently.99 Hours 15 Minutes (89 Hours 15 Minutes After Summer)27 Hours 15 Minutes

9/17/20142 Hours 30 MinutesAt the Pomona Fairplex, I signed up to do a program to be an ambassador for Habitat for Humanity in order to talk to fairgoers about our mission statement and what we do as volunteers in both the store, on the construction site, and for the World. The major importance is that I got to interact with people and be informative about the cause.12 Hours 30 Minutes (2 Hours 30 Minutes after Summer)2/4/20153 Hours 20 MinutesToday was the time where I wrapped up my Independent Component by cleaning a good enough portion of the recieving area. In the span of 3 Hours and 20 Minutes, it's a night and day difference compared to what it was at the beginning of the day. The importance here is to always keep your areas of resupply organized and clear of clutter.54 Hours 45 Minutes (44 Hours 45 Minutes After Summer)31 Hours 45 Minutes4/24/20156 Hours 45 MinutesI took an entire volunteer day to connect with my mentor about what she does to train people. Also, various staff members around the store critiqued me on what I did right and what I did wrong according to my project. During the process, they said I wasn't overbearing, but I was always there to offer guidance should they need it.106 Hours (96 Hours After Summer)34 Hours

9/18/20142 Hours 30 MinutesGoing more into depth at the Pomona Fairplex, I told people about our non-profit organization and what we do. When interacting with people who came towards the booth, I informed them politely and was very out there in making sure they knew why we were here telling people about our cause. Again, building up essential customer service skills, making sure people are satisfied and have information.15 Hours (5 Hours After Summer)

11/5/20142 Hours 30 MinutesAround the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, I had cleaned up around the back receiving room of the store, figuring out the ground work and what I was going to do. Additionally, I walked around the store making sure customers had the proper assistance they needed to get their household items.17 Hours 30 Minutes (7 Hours 30 Minutes After Summer)
13
11/12/20142 Hours 30 MunutesMy mentor, Sara Timberlake taught me the importance of knowing product both inside and out. She also taught me how to assemble some inventory such as couches, tables, and other merchandise so they could be ready to sell on the floor.20 Hours (10 Hours After Summer)
14
11/19/20143 Hours 30 MinutesI had to organize some doors to be in the proper places/departments. I also had to move some objects into place due to them being OUT of said place. Having your items in designated areas is very important in terms of customer and staff convinience.23 Hours 30 Minutes (13 Hours 30 Minutes After Summer)
15
2/10/20154 HoursLots of good learning on safety methods and precautions to take when an employee on the line does get hurt during the work process.58 Hours 45 Minutes (48 Hours 45 Minutes After Summer)
16
2/11/20153 Hours 30 MinutesMy mentor, Sara Timberlake, went through the thought process of prioritization of store items. Example, if one item is selling really good in the store, we tend to bring in those items first and put them out on the store floor. Also, it's important to pay attention to your finances.61 Hours 15 Minutes (51 Hours 15 Minutes After Summer)
17
2/17/20154 Hours 30 MinutesToday was a day working primarily on customer service methods and store principles. Always know your mission statement and don't be afraid to explain your goals to customers.65 Hours 45 Minutes (55 Hours 45 Minutes After Summer)
18
2/22/20156 Hours 15 MinutesUnfortunately, this was my mentor, Andrew Johnson's last day as both manager of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and my mentor. He taught me about what he does behind the desk and let me shadow in on a meeting with an employee relating to more of the store's pressing issues.72 Hours (62 Hours After Summer)
19
5/8/20154 HoursStandardization of product was a pivotal store management lesson learned on this day, which is the process of setting generally uniform characteristics for a particular good or service. Product standardization among the goods provided by different businesses operating in technology-based industries can be useful for consumers since it permits competition among the various suppliers.110 Hours (100 Hours After Summer)

5/12/20153 Hours 15 MinutesOnly my new manager, Richard Forttson was here at the ReStore, giving me a giant lesson on encouraging customers to buy products and be confident on what you sell. He ordered me to make sure that we sell at least 10 doors and 5 couches. I felt like a mini-entrepeneur and it was actually a very insightful day.113 Hours 15 Minutes (103 Hours After Summer)
