Unlearning Grading: Alternative Assessment Strategies in Support of Student Success (2023-24)
CETL Learning Communities meet every three weeks for discussion and activities focused on a shared goal or project. This learning community is open to faculty, staff, and graduate students. In early September, learning community facilitators will reach out to all who fill out this form to plan meeting dates, learning materials, and activities.
Description: This learning community will work collaboratively to critically evaluate the utility of traditional assessment strategies, explore different pedagogical approaches to assessment and how they might enhance different learning objectives, and design alternative assessment models customized to effectively enrich student learning in distinctive course contexts. The group will focus on developing assignments that encourage students to reflect on their own learning; designing assessment methods that emphasize evaluative, qualitative feedback to aid continued student learning; promoting collaborative learning and peer assessment in the classroom; and developing methods for intrinsic learning motivation. Facilitated by Patrick Hillberg (Industrial Systems Engineering), Annie Sullivan (Film Studies), and Dawn Woods (Teacher Education).
