Mandatory Orientations

You are required to participate in the mandatory orientations that cover various essential topics to prepare you for a successful experience abroad. If you do not complete the pre-departure orientation requirement two weeks before your departure date, your participation in the USAC program may be canceled.

UNLV Student Conduct Code

The UNLV Student Conduct Code will still apply to you while you are on a UNLV-sponsored activity. Studying abroad through USAC is a UNLV-sponsored activity. If you violate the Student Conduct Code before you depart, your program acceptance could be revoked. If you commit a student conduct code violation abroad, it will be reported back to UNLV, it could interrupt your term abroad, and there will be consequences upon your return to UNLV.

Media Content Submission

You agree to the terms of the standard UNLV Photo/Video Release Form when you submit any digital media content to our office or USAC.

Courses

You are responsible for understanding how the courses you choose to take abroad will or will not apply to your degree progress. You should select alternate courses that you could take in your location in the event that your first choices are canceled or your schedule needs an adjustment while you are abroad. If you have questions or need help, contact the International Programs Office and your academic advisors.

Course Changes in UNLV Credit (Specialty) Programs

Once you've selected courses on your USAC enrollment form, our office will use that form to enroll you in your study abroad courses.

Seniors Planning to Attend A Transfer Credit Program: Resident Credit Requirement

A candidate for the baccalaureate degree must complete the last 30 University semester credits in uninterrupted resident credit as a declared major in the degree-granting college. UNLV Credit (specialty) programs do not interrupt this requirement, but Transfer Credit (partnership) programs do interrupt this requirement.

There is an authorized exception for students in the Study Abroad Program sponsored by the Office of International Programs who have earned three-fourths of the credits at the University. They may earn a maximum of 15 acceptable transfer credits.

You will need to speak with your academic advisor about being granted this authorized exception.

If you don't qualify for this exception then you have two options. You can choose to switch to a different program that is UNLV Credit (Specialty) because they do not interrupt resident credit. You can also apply to waive the requirement through your academic advisor.

A waiver of the resident credit requirement is rarely granted, unless there are extenuating circumstances involving UNLV responsibility. A petition for an exception needs to be submitted two semesters in advance of the expected date of graduation. Waivers must be approved by an academic advisor, department chair, dean, and the Faculty Senate Academic Standards Committee.
