What Can I Expect?
While participating in UDCR Facilitated Team Development workshops, your team will be challenged to complete a sequence of community building and experiential learning based challenges, puzzles, and activities. Every session begins with an introduction, expectation and goal setting. The workshop activities and debriefs are selected to meet the group’s pre-established goals while considering the culture of the group and comfort of individuals. Programming is highly participant centered. Participants should be prepared to participate fully, have fun, challenge themselves and others, and learn from the experience. Individual’s comfort zones are stretched yet respected through the philosophy of Challenge by Choice and inclusive practices.

What Do We Expect
Team members will get out of the experience what they put into it. Please arrive ready to contribute the the team challenges, work toward your team goals, and learn something new. To ensure our patrons enjoy a safe and positive experience, we require that all patrons acknowledge and abide by University of Dayton and Department of Campus Recreation rules, policies, and guidelines.  Participation, membership, and use of University of Dayton Campus Recreation programs, services, and facilities are a privilege, which comes with responsibilities. Disorderly conduct, abuse, or misuse of the facility, equipment, staff, or disregard for policies will not be tolerated.  Violators will be required to leave the program and facility and may be subject to disciplinary action.  Participants who are suspended will not have any portion of their fees refunded.

What Should I Wear?
Workshops can be held anywhere and the physical requirements vary depending upon your programs goals. General guidelines follow.
Outdoor: Dress for the weather and bring/wear layers in the event of changing temperatures. Shorts or pants that are comfortable and allow for some bending, squatting, and sitting are ideal. Skirts and dresses can be accommodated.  In hot and sunny conditions, a brimmed hat, sunscreen, and bug spray are recommended. In cold/windy conditions a warm hat, gloves, and jackets are recommended. Closed toed shoes, preferably athletic, without a heel greater than 1” are required.
Indoor: Dress in comfortable clothing that will allow for some bending, squatting, walking, and sitting. Casual or Business Causal attire is generally appropriate. Closed toed shoes, preferably athletic, without a heel greater than 1” are required.

What Should I Bring?
In addition to dressing for the event, please bring a water bottle and light snacks.

What if I am uncomfortable participating in an activity?
At the start of each workshop we will discuss the philosophy of “challenge by choice.” If you are uncomfortable participating for physical, emotional, or any other reason, we respect your decision to choose your level of involvement.  You can simply say “I’m going to sit this one out.” Once the group is busy with the activity, a facilitator will likely check-in with you to see if there is anything we can do to make you feel more comfortable and included in the experience. If you have participated in a traumatic team building experience in the past or have any concerns going into this workshop, please contact our office. We are here to support you and your team.  -- Amber Dierking, Assistant Director for Outdoor Education 937-229-2397 adierking1@udayton.edu
