Volunteers maintain an essential lifeline for our shared community, so we encourage all Chargers to get involved! Various service opportunities are available that further our school's mission, foster relationships, and perpetuate a tradition of participation and full community support. Some of these opportunities are led by Albuquerque Academy Parent Association (AAPA), while others are school-wide events and activities facilitated by the Admission, Advancement/Alumni offices. Please indicate any areas and activities of interest.

SCHOOL-WIDE EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Family Tailgate (Friday, August 30, 2024): Help set up and facilitate the fun for this all family tailgate before our football game under the lights.

Community Day contributor (Friday, October 25, 2024): Lead a workshop for students on a skill or topic of your choosing (e.g., leadership, needlework, advocacy, yoga, etc.); host a table at the Community Fair to inform students about your passion projects and community service interests; or simply provide day-of support.

Academy Alight (Thursday, December 12, 2024): Help prepare campus for our annual event featuring more than 5,000 luminarias and festive flair.

Career Day presenter (Wednesday, January 29, 2025): Please indicate your industry and profession in the "Other Interests" section below.

GrandDays (Monday, March 31 - Tuesday, April 1, 2025): Help us host grandparents and grandfriends as they share a day on campus with our students.

Senior Project Sponsor - Spring 2025: Sponsor/mentor a senior as they explore interests, passions, and potential career paths as their capstone project. Please indicate your industry and profession in the "Other Interests" section below.

Annual Giving Days support for the Advancement department - Giving Tuesday (Tuesday, December 3, 2024) and Spring Day of Giving (Wednesday, April 2, 2025)

ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

All graduates and former students of Albuquerque Academy are members of the Alumni Association -- more than 8,000 strong. Alumni are entrusted with the mission of Albuquerque Academy and collectively serve the generations of Chargers to come.

Alumni Council: The Alumni Council is the governing body for the Alumni Association. I am interested in learning more about service on a committee or as a member of the Council.

Community Day contributor or volunteer - Friday, October 25, 2024. Alumni Weekend/Homecoming: Friday, September 13 - Saturday, September 14, 2024. Greet alumni guests and help with event set-up, registration, and clean up.

Career Day presenter - January 29, 2025: Share your work and industry expertise with Academy juniors.

Class Representative: Year-round opportunity (Class reps keep in touch with classmates, keep contacts current, encourage continued connection and participation in our community.)

Reunion Coordinator: Year-round opportunity (Coordinators help keep in touch with classmates, keep contacts current, encourage continued connection and participation with our alums).

Regional Alumni Receptions (Nationwide): Help coordinate and host networking receptions and social events in your city.

Local Alumni Events (Albuquerque residents): Help coordinate and host networking receptions and social events.

Alumni Holiday Celebration: Help coordinate this December reception in Albuquerque for all alumni and faculty.

Young Alumni Reception: Help coordinate this annual young alumni event in November.

ALBUQUERQUE ACADEMY PARENTS' ASSOCIATION (AAPA)

AAPA membership includes all parents and legal guardians of students enrolled at Albuquerque Academy.

Bookstore: Assist with staffing during the school year. Volunteers can sign up for recurring shifts or substitute a shift(s) when regular volunteers are not available.

Simms Library: Sign up for a recurring shift to assist in the library.

Concessions: Sign up for shifts at one of Academy's concession venues (Charger Café, Red & Black Shack, Natatorium) at a variety of sporting and community events during the year. Proceeds directly benefit student activities such as Senior Week.

Appreciation Breakfasts: Help host and/or provide food for division and school-wide breakfasts for faculty and staff throughout the year

Visual Arts and Performing Arts Receptions: Organize and provide food for receptions.

School and Sports Photos: Organize school and team sport photo days.

6-7 Division Activities: Assist with a variety of grade- or division-level activities to support students. Ex. dances, movie nights, end of year parties.

8-9 Division Activities: Assist with a variety of grade- or division-level activities to support students. Ex. dances, movie nights, end of year parties.

10-12 Division Activities: Assist with a variety of grade- or division-level activities to support students. Ex. dances, movie nights, end of year parties.

Class of 2025 Senior Week: Parents of senior students help plan graduation week activities and events.

AFFINITY GROUPS & MULTICULTURAL PARENT COUNCILS

Join an affinity/cultural group to connect, encourage, mentor, advocate for, and support our students and families. Contact Peter Gloyd (gloyd@aa.edu), Director of Diversity, Culture, & Belonging.

OTHER INTERESTS

Periodically, our wide array of student clubs and departments benefit from partnerships with volunteers that have talents, expertise, and interest to share. For example: Speech and Debate, STEAM, Visual and Performing Arts, Computer Science, E-Sports, DECA (business/entrepreneurship), Experiential Education, Mariachi Band, Diversity, Culture, and Belonging (DCB) Initiatives, Environmental, Community Services, Leadership Development, Strategic Games, etc.

Please indicate your interests and the appropriate advisor, sponsor, or department lead will reach out if and when opportunities are available.
