In memory of John Lescher ‘91, his family and friends have established a scholarship fund in his name to help a current Elyria Catholic student. The man for who this scholarship is named was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. John’s legacy will live on through this scholarship by providing EC students the opportunity to succeed in their schooling and development into adulthood.
John was an active member of the Elyria Catholic community, both academically and athletically. He was a tri-captain of the 1990 football team, and his charismatic spirit helped lead the team to the playoffs. He graduated from Ohio State University, earned an MBA from Tiffin University, launched a successful career at Invacare, and then partnered with his fellow EC graduate, Sean Getty ‘90, to open several successful Jersey Mike franchises. John did all of this while maintaining his humble nature.
Anyone who knew John would describe him as a fierce friend, loyal protector, and humble achiever. John had a passion for athletic competition, finding adventure in everything, and taking on the most challenging situations. John brightened other people’s day with his infectious smile, big heart, and willingness to give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. He loved to travel, cheer on his Buckeyes, and gather with family and friends. John’s love for his sons, Johnny and Jacob, had no limits, and was especially vibrant during many coaching and teaching moments. John bonded with his own father through many activities, especially during their annual deer hunting excursions. He was the quintessential big brother and protector of his sister, Mandy. Moreover, John depended on God and his deep faith as a compass for his life. The John Lescher Family Scholarship will be awarded to a student who most represents John’s team spirit, humility, kindness, ambition, and faith.
