Literacy Fest - Monday, October 7, 2019
Literacy Fest
Help children celebrate the joy of reading, and bring our Highcroft community together, at our annual Literacy Fest on Monday, October 7 from 3:30 - 5:00 pm. Help with one of a variety of activities at the event, and/or set up and clean up:

Pumpkin Party
Help with set up, event supervision, and/or clean up for this PreK-5 Fall event on Thursday, October 24, 2019, from 3:30 to 4:00 pm.
Grand Friend Day
Tuesday, November 26, 2019 from 8-11:30 am. Each year, parents are the key to making this day so wonderful and special – thank you! We continue to need helping hands to facilitate the logistics of moving almost 300 people to and through activities. To be successful again this year, we need YOU! Volunteers help greet guests, assist with dismissal to classrooms, distribute take-home gifts for guests, assist with passing time between activity periods, and serve as a child’s guest if needed. If you have any questions, please contact Miranda Kuennen in the Advancement Office at (952) 988-3445, or mkuennen@blakeschool.org. If you sign-up to volunteer you will receive an email with more information from Miranda once the event gets closer.
WinterFest
Thursday, January 16, 2020. Help set up, chaperone and/or clean up this Grade 1-5 Winter event which runs from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m
Pinewood Derby
Thursday, January 30, 2020, 5pm-8:30pm. Volunteers are needed for our annual Pinewood Derby race. Come and help us run this fabulous community event! Check-in: assist students with check-in, weighing, and car storage on Tuesday, January 28, 7:45 to 8:45 am and 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Judges: help determine special award winners, Wednesday, January 29, morning hours. Room/Track-Set Up: Help set-up and test the track on Thursday, January 30, morning hours. Derby Night Help: Thursday January 30, shifts between 4pm - 9pm. (*car placing, race starter, computer help, awards announcement, room clean-up, move cars to library for display, photography)
Bingo Night (Grades 3-5)
Thursday, March 10, 2020. Help serve food and clean up during this evening event from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Pancake Breakfast (Grades K-2)
Friday, April 17, 2020. Work with co-chairs to help set-up, serve food and clean up during the parent/child pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m.
5th Grade Graduation Party
Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Attend and volunteer at the 5th grade students immediately following the Closing Ceremony. Please note that a background check is required for this volunteer position.
Student Activities - Year-Long
BearWear Campus Representative
Coordinate BearWear sales for the Highcroft campus. Contribute to sourcing, marketing and communications of BearWear as a campus representative.
VTS Discussion Facilitator
Participate in this art enrichment program by facilitating a short critical thinking discussion during your child's art class around pre-selected images, two to three times a year. Also, chaperoning a field trip to the Minnesota Institute of Art towards the end of the year. Volunteers are required to attend a brief training session in September. No background in art is needed.
Girls B.E.A.R.S Club (Belonging Empowerment Acceptance Respect and Service)
Help lead a group of students in fun and meaningful activities and projects on 4 Thursdays after school (2 in Fall, 2 in Winter/Spring), and participate in a group campout with the other grades in May. At least two leaders are needed per grade, and grades not listed have leaders in place for this year. Please note that a background check is required for this volunteer position.

Highcroft Library
Highcroft Library
Cover the circulation desk during class checkout, for Kindergarten - Second Grade classes: Responsibilities include operating the library automation system to check out and return library materials, shelving returned materials, and assisting students with locating materials. It is expected that the volunteer help with at least one shift per month (1.5 hours). Substitute for circulation desk: same description as above on an as needed basis. Morning Check-In: Check in and shelve library materials returned in the mornings. 2-4 shifts per month (20-40 minutes) after morning drop off. Keepers of the Order of Knowledge: Volunteers are needed to check shelves to insure that the books are in their proper order. A section of shelves will be assigned to each volunteer at the beginning of the year. Volunteers come in on their own time 2 times per month to check their section (usually takes 30-40 minutes). This is a great opportunity for Third - Fifth grade parents to spend time in the library during your child’s class time. Year End Inventory: Help scan barcodes on library materials. Need volunteers for one-hour blocks. Book Exchange: Used book exchange held at the end of May in the Highcroft Library. Volunteers needed for the morning shopping times, 7:45 to 8:30 am.

Faculty Treats
Provide treats for our faculty and staff in the staff lounge on Mondays (or sometimes Tuesdays). Sign up for individual weeks in the fall.
