The Human Library is an international organization and movement that first started in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2000. It aims to address people's prejudices by helping them to talk to those they would not normally meet. The organization uses a library analogy of lending people rather than books.

An LTU Human Library event coordinator will contact you as the date of the next scheduled event approaches. (This event is usually held in November)

12:30pm - 3:30pm

Atrium, Buell Management Building (Building #5)

Set-up (11:00am - 12:30pm) - tidy area for the “book” depot (private area for “books” on break), arrange tables and chairs as needed, tape signage in the space, set up the table to display book summaries

Librarian (12:00 -- 3:30pm) - take care of the human books in our library and help readers understand how to navigate the Human Library.

Clean-Up (3:15pm - 4:30pm) - pack away all supplies and help return space to its original set-up.

If you're interested in being a "book" for the Human Library provide a 1 - 2 sentence description of a topic from your life that you would like to share.

Do you defy a stereotype? Are you like an open book and do you have valuable experiences that readers could benefit from learning about? Are you motivated to help challenge stigma and stereotypes through dialogue and one-on-one conversations? If the answer is yes, then this is the perfect opportunity.

Being published requires an individual to be emotionally ready to share their personal story of adversity. A representative from LTU will contact you about moving forward.
