Please be aware that according to German law students are obligated to attend school.

Advance notice of any planned absence from school is required by law. The school cannot grant “extra holidays” due to prevailing school laws (Hessisches Schulgesetz) unless there is an exceptional family situation such as a wedding or funeral of a close relative, for instance, or some major emergency.

Should you wish to take your child out of school for personal or family reasons, each request will be considered on a case by case basis taking into consideration German law.  

Students are responsible for making up independently any schoolwork missed due to their absence. Teachers cannot be asked to provide work, nor make special arrangements for students who miss school because of planned absences.

Absences will be excused solely at the discretion of the Secondary School Principal. All other absences will be recorded as unexcused.
