Hello!
With the announcement of Cleveland Public Schools going remote, Students for Refugees is developing a School Support Program to aid refugee children. You would serve as a one on one tutor or mentor for a refugee student. Your responsibilities would include assisting students with assignments, reviewing material learned that day, explaining topics that might not be clear, etc. This will begin remote with tutoring occurring on zoom but we are hoping this program will continue beyond the pandemic where volunteers and students could meet in person. Students will range from elementary school to high school age. An interpreter might be required for tutoring sessions depending on the English level of the student.
Commitment is extremely important. It will be expected that you meet on zoom at a minimum of once a week for 1-2 hours. It would be extremely beneficial to both parties, if you were able to continue with the tutoring or mentorship beyond just one semester.
In order to participate, you must complete paperwork, attend orientations, as well complete a background check. The cost will not be covered by the club or agency.
