DISCLAIMER: Placement requests are taken into consideration, but they are NOT a guarantee. We make every effort to accommodate requests, but it is not always possible.
EDUC 290: Placements are to be done on Wednesdays from 8:00-11:50 typically, and will be set by the Education Coordinator. Monitor your email. Make sure you check it AND respond when you receive information.
- Students must complete a background check through CastleBranch (good for 3 years).
- Then fill out this placement request.
- Finally, complete a DCS/CPS History Check (good for one year) with Joe Lute in person or over the phone. Schedule by emailing joseph.lute@vinu.edu, or call 812.888.4148.
*Students are unable to start placements unless they have passed a DCS/CPS History check annually. If you need to update yours, contact the education coordinator.
For all other placements, make sure your background checks are up to date. As different schools and teachers have different schedules, it will be up to you to reach out to the teacher once a placement is made to arrange days and times. Make sure you meet all of your hourly requirements!
*You may not be placed in a school where a family member (past, present, or known future) works. If you end up placed in the same building as a family member, notify us immediately as this creates a significant conflict of interest and hours completed in that placement will need to be made up. This policy is shared by VU and most of the surrounding schools. This policy exists to protect both you and the schools from liability issues.
*You may not complete multiple experiences in the same school without express consent from your advisor and the department chair of the education program. For example, if you complete your EDUC 290 hours at Little Elementary, you will not be able to do any other hours for the VU program at Little Elementary. Little Middle or High are still okay.
