Music Neuropsychology Group Training Program (2017-2018)
The Music Neuropsychology Group Training Program was developed based on principles and techniques that have been empirically showed to elicit positive outcomes in children with ASD or other SEN. The primary aim of the program is to facilitate the development of attention (being aware of surroundings), emotional processing (experiencing and expressing different feelings), social communication (interacting reciprocally with others) and self-control (exercising discipline and patience) in children with ASD or SEN by means of evidence-based training that integrates neuroscience knowledge with music. Other aims are to let children experience different types of musical instruments (percussion, winds, and strings), teach children basic music knowledge (including pitch/tonality, rhythm/tempo, articulation and dynamics) and provide them with opportunities to gain exposure to and appreciate music.
The program comprises of three teaching modules, with 1 session per week for 12 weeks in each teaching module (36 sessions in total for all three teaching modules). Each teaching module focuses on learning different musical instruments, including percussion for module I, winds for module II, and strings for module III.
