Request for Exception (Non Medical-Related)
The Request for Exception should be filed for documented extenuating circumstances only. Please read all of the following information carefully before beginning your request.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Requests will not be reviewed without supporting documentation. Please review the Enrollment Exception website for examples of acceptable documentation. Documents should be sent separately via email to regexceptions@oakland.edu
  • Before submitting this request, please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to discuss whether your receipt of financial aid funding (grants, loans, scholarships, etc. will be impacted by your request to withdraw or drop for tuition refund)
  • Students need to know the financial implications if their request is approved. Financial aid may be canceled and require repayment depending on a student’s last day of attendance in a course. 
  • Before submitting this request, be sure to speak with an academic adviser as the request may impact your future class schedule as well as your progress to degree (Find My Adviser)
  • Request for Exceptions must be submitted and completed prior to the conferral of your degree

Examples of circumstances that may warrant special consideration include:

  • Confirmation of non-attendance (confirmed by faculty)
  • University/Advising Error 
  • Serious illness or death of an immediate family member during term
    Student's personal illness (including mental health) should use the Request for Exception Medical-Related form instead. This form is reviewed by the Dean of Students office.

Requests made for the following reasons will not be considered:

  • Lack of awareness of drop/add deadlines
  • Dissatisfaction with grade, teaching style, instructor
    Requests of this nature should be made using the Academic Affairs Assistance Request Form instead
  • Changes in work schedule or other employment demands
  • Insufficient funds or inability to pay
  • Claims of lack of information
  • Other reasons that are within the control of the student
  • Technical difficulties (If technical difficulty is noted, documented support must be provided for further review , but does not guarantee approval)
