Bos/treal is a weeklong bike tour and fundraiser that supports the Boston Cyclists Union’s work to make biking better in Boston. In 2022, participants will ride nearly 300 miles over 4 days (ranging from 55 - 82 miles/day) to Burlington, VT. From there, riders enjoy a free day to explore Burlington and the surrounding area before making their way the final few miles to camp at Grand Isle on lovely Lake Champlain.
We know fundraising and personal costs (both time and money) can be barriers to riding Bos/treal. Through the Everybody Rides Scholarship, we aim to make the ride more accessible by eliminating registration costs and requiring no fundraising minimum. The BCU is also pursuing ways to further support scholarship recipients with free gear and other perks. At minimum, BCU staff/volunteers can gladly lend bike and camping equipment.
We strongly encourage people of color, immigrants, working class people, women, and LGBTQIA+ people to apply, because unsafe roads disproportionately harm communities already impacted by other unjust systems. For the same reason, we encourage residents of East Boston, Chinatown, Hyde Park, Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan to apply.
If you want to ride Bos/treal, we’ll help you make it happen! BCU staff and volunteers can lend a hand with everything from learning how to fix a flat to taking you on training rides. Let us know how we can help using the space provided on this form.
