About Us:

Join our dynamic team at MiraCosta College, where Social Justice & Equity Interns play a vital role in representing the Social Justice & Equity Center (SJEC) and the Student Equity Department. This internship offers an exciting opportunity for MiraCosta students to actively contribute to diversity and inclusion programming, while gaining valuable career development and academic credit.

Responsibilities:

As an SJEC Intern, you will serve as a student staff member for the SJEC, engaging in the planning, logistics, and promotion of events, particularly those related to the college's History and Heritage Months Programming (HHM). Interns are also responsible for developing the Gear Up for College Summer focused on providing an equity minded summer program for OUSD students, grade 9-12. Estimated weekly commitment includes 7-10 hours of work with bi-weekly department meetings every Friday.  

Key Duties:

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of diversity and inclusion programming
  • Provide support for events related to History and Heritage Months Programming
  • Support the planning of the Gear Up for College Summer program
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the SJEC
  • Create content for social media
  • Other duties as assigned

Professional Development:

Interns will receive career development opportunities and an optional academic credit (1 unit) for completing the internship with a faculty mentor. Interns will also receive a robust understanding of social justice and equity topics and leadership opportunities.

  • Currently enrolled MiraCosta College student.
  • Passionate about social justice, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
