Want to turn your manure into a valuable resource? Would you like to reduce your manure disposal and fertilizer costs? Be more environmentally friendly?
The NJ Department of Agriculture has developed a two-part FREE course taught by the NJ Composting Council, NJDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and Rutgers University designed to teach how to properly handle, store, compost and utilize horse manure and more. This registration form is for participation in the Field Day only, an in-person event. The field day will focus on composting horse manure with pine shavings bedding and include demonstrations of composting technique, hands-on demonstration stations, and discussion of incorporation of compost into pasture, crop, and nursery operations. Space is limited to 45 participants only, so register early!
Part one of the course is an online workshop designed to teach the fundamentals of how to compost, show you technology options, regulations, nutrient management, how to take advantage of NRCS funding and more. While designed for horse farmers, the principles of composting remain the same for other organic waste and we encourage all farmers considering how they can reduce their waste handling costs and be a better environmental steward to join us. You can sign up here for access to that zoom webinar.
Funding for this course is provided by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
