Teaching Demo

Reflection Letter

I believe I was able to clearly convey my contentions and accomplish my purpose during my teaching demo. My audience seemed too understood and identified with the feelings that our students face when we mention vocabulary. Throughout my presentation, my audience seemed to be engaged and interested.  I feel that based on positive comments from response groups that I was able to hold their attention as well as inform.

I felt the most exciting part of my demo was based on my audience’s responses. When they were having fun working together to develop their conclusions using the challenging vocabulary words I felt good about the content. However, when they were confused about the vocabulary words and their usage, I felt that I needed to rethink that part of the demonstration. I thought that the group writing and presentation of the stories conclusions went very well as the audience seemed to have fun voting for their favorite conclusion.

Based on feedback my audience enjoyed the use of cooperative learning during the assigned work time of my presentation. Many people felt that they could adapt some of the activities to several different grade levels. Others felt that one of strengths of my presentation was incorporating activities that used multiple modalities. I was glad to see that this was well received, as I try to incorporate multiple changes during our 71 minute lessons.  Several groups also mentioned that my lesson met the high school content expectations that focused on ……….

One of the strategies I modeled was compassion and understanding for students. I tried to convey approval and encouragement…..

If I were to revise my demo, I would divide the writing using the vocabulary words into a separate demo after the conclusion piece itself, taking more time to discuss word meaning. One of the challenges that I face as an educator is knowing how much time I need to allot my students as they work on group activities.  This happened at the end of my lesson when I allowed extra time to finish group work prior to the presentations.

The response letters were helpful. They gave me several different suggestions on ways I could address the question I have been struggling with in this lesson evaluation.  I will continue to think about the ideas offered and incorporate assessment that is appropriate and effective.
