For many, it’s a typical work day, even for those at a company like Grey Inc. The day is made a little less typical for those that happen to see Jocelyn pass down the halls, wearing designer jeans and a fashionable top that definitely flatters her figure. An equally stylish coat is draped over one arm, an acknowledgement of the cooler weather outdoors, while her other hand bears a cell phone. “E-mail me your suggestions, and I’ll look them over, Walter,” she speaks into the phone, her voice cultured, pleasing to the ear. She slows as she reaches a hall containing some comfortable chairs, not far from David’s office, and chooses a seat. “I’m excited, too! Bye.” She hangs up and eyes the time. David’s in a meeting, she’s been told, so she’s likely in for a wait.

For some, a typical work day is a little weirder than others. Grey Inc’s newest IT worker hasn’t caused many ripples since he was hired, but on the other hand, he’s picked up something of an... odd reputation. The rumors that he’s actually a ninja and can hear what you’re typing from down the hall are almost certainly wild exaggerations, right? Right. On the other hand, he’s apparently got a habit of actively prowling the building. It’s helpful when the printer’s acting up. Like now. “Be/have/ you little...” comes the somewhat irritated grumble from a nearby office, and then Anso steps out into the hall, pushing some hair back out of his face as he talks to the staffer he was assisting, “Right, ought to do it, ping me if it goes wrong again.” And before he can take off down the hall, the geek’s eyes catch on something out of place. “Afternoon miss,” he chirps to Jocelyn with a grin, “help you find something?” Someone needs to lay off the caffeine...

Jocelyn looks up at the sound of unfamiliar voices, giving the employees a curious glance. As Anso turns her way, she returns that grin. “Afternoon. And no, I’m fine, thank you. I’m a friend of Nicholas and David, and I was hoping to catch David with a free moment. Unfortunately, that’s rather rare. Ah, I’m Jocelyn Reynard,” she adds, standing and offering her hand.

Anso’s expression clears as he shakes the offered hand, “Oh right! Saw your file. Anso Koenig, local IT, nice to meet you.” The hand not occupied with Jocelyn’s gestures vaguely back at the office he just came out of, “Printer wasn’t talking to the network properly, just needed a bit of a kicking. Best time to catch either of them’s during lunch or after business-close, I’ve found.” Does he ever breathe in? “Anything I can help you with in the meantime?”

“My file?” asks Jocelyn, surprised at first. “Oh, right! I did work with David on some legal issues in the past. Good to meet you as well, Anso. IT, hmm? They must keep you terribly busy around here.” She considers a moment, then smiles, “I could use some computer help myself if you ever decide you’d like some extra work. I know so little about technical things like that.”

“Not as bad as when I first signed on,” the tech grins, tucking his thumbs into the back pockets of his khakis. “Once I got through kicking the network into shape, things have been pretty smooth sailing. What’s your damage? ...er, what’s up with your machine?” The grin turns somewhat sheepish, and Anso visibly makes himself slow down and get onto a more ‘normal’ bandwidth, “Sorry, I go off sometimes.”

“How long have you been working here?” asks Jocelyn, shaking her head with a smile at his apology. She doesn’t mind! “I moved here last fall myself, but I still feel rather new to the area. As for the computer, I certainly hope it’s not damaged! It does run slower than it used to. That and I would like to make sure it’s protected. I have a crazy ex,” she explains with a smirk.

“Been here since March, but I usually stay down in the cave. Er, the main server area.” Leaning against the wall nearby, Anso winces in sympathy, “Sorry to hear that. But sure, I can give your machine a rummage and make sure it’s clean, put a few things on to keep it that way, that kind of thing. Laptop?” Why does it look like he’s ready to go charging off right this minute? ...probably because he is.

“Cave?” repeats Jocelyn, looking amused. “I doubt it’s that bad.” Her expression brightens at his agreement. “Excellent! And yes, a laptop. I’ve been moving, so it was more convenient. - Do you think I should get a desktop eventually? - Should I bring it here or would you rather stop by my place? I’m living in the Winter Park condos, which is just down the street.”

Anso laughs with a shrug, “We keep it dark and chilly, so the name stuck. And laptop or desktop, it really depends on which you like more. These days, you can get about the same level machine in either, if you know where to look.” He cocks his head as Jocelyn mentions where she’s staying, but just says “Either’s fine with me, really. I’m cleared by Nick to go through all material, sensitive or otherwise. When’s good for you?”

“Wonderful,” says Jocelyn. “I’ll probably stick with the laptop, then, just in case I have to move again. You never know. Someday I would love a large house, but I don’t quite feel safe enough for that yet.” She chuckles at that last part. “Sounds like they trust you. My material is more personal than sensitive. I’m an actress, not a spy.”

“Well, there’s sensitive and then there’s sensitive. But I promise to remain professional at all times,” and Anso flashes a scouts-honor salute with a somewhat silly grin before shrugging and stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Well, I’m pretty sure David still looks at me funny when he doesn’t think I can see him. He’s got a pretty impressive camera array set up around the building, did you know? Makes me think he’s a little paranoid.”

Jocelyn grins at the salute, and then laughs as he goes on. “David looks at most everyone that way. You have no idea what it took for him to finally warm up to me. And we’re still working on that. ...When you say camera array, is this separate from the security system that you can see?”

Anso immediately looks utterly innocent, blinking curiously and asking “Separate? Well, there’s the secure storage and the primary access loop...” What personal camera array? We know not of what you speak.

“...Right. Those words meant nothing to me,” says Jocelyn with a slight laugh. “Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t at least three separate camera systems around this building. Nicholas can be paranoid, too. They’ve helped me with some security around my place, too. Because of that ex I’d mentioned.”

Technobabble defense was super effective! Anso grins and shrugs, “Just because you’re being paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you, I’ve found. Never hurts to be prepared. Hope that ex thing gets straightened out soon, though. Must be a pain.”

“Yes, that’s very true,” agrees Jocelyn. “More often than not, ‘paranoia’ is founded.” She wrinkles her nose about the ex, nodding. “As do I. And it will, eventually. I’ve good friends looking out for me. Anyways, I’ve likely taken up enough of your time. I’ll be by later with the laptop?”

Anso flashes a grin and a thumbs-up, “Sure thing, miss Reynard. You can have the front desk buzz me, or try and get Nick to show you the Cave or something. I’m not big on formality.” He offers his hand for a farewell shake, “Don’t need to do my witch-doctoring behind closed doors.”

“I’ll do so,” agrees Jocelyn, smiling as she reaches to accept the handshake. “And I’ll compensate you for your time, of course,” she adds reassuringly as she steps back, starting to turn back down the hall. “Now to see if that meeting has ended...”

“Right you are, miss Reynard. I’ll see you around,” and Anso flips two fingers up near his eyebrow in a sort of informal salute before turning and moving off down the hall, long legs devouring the distance. He’s out of sight in moments. What does that boy eat?!
