Excursion Itinerary for Saturday, July 17
Overview
We will meet in front of Santa Fe Square at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 17. We will take the bus to Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. You will have all day to explore Fort Worth. We will meet for dinner in Sundance Square at 6:30 p.m. You must return to the drop-off point in Sundance Square by 7:30 p.m.
Getting Around Town
You will arrive in Sundance Square. You can take Molly the Trolly around Sundance Square and to the Stockyards. Downtown is free; the Stockyards Shuttle is $1.50 each way ($3 roundtrip). The shuttles run every 15 minutes. Follow these tips when riding the trolley:
- When the vehicle approaches, check the overhead sign above the windshield to be sure you're boarding the right trolley.
- Passenger shelters and trolley stop signs are located along the routes. For your safety, drivers stop only at designated trolley stops.
- Use the map which shows available routes.

Sights to See
Fort Worth’s downtown has gained a reputation as one of the country’s most lively urban settings. The 35-block Sundance Square entertainment district is home to a collection of restaurants, live music clubs, theatres, shops, exciting nightlife and the beautiful Bass Performance Hall, named as one of the top 10 opera houses in the world. Here are some suggestions:
Stockyards Historic District
Perhaps the most popular tourist destination in Fort Worth is the Stockyards Historic District, with good reason. It's here that you can experience the thrill of a cattle drive (every day!), check out some bronco bustin' at the rodeo (every Friday and Saturday night), test your mettle against the Cowtown Cattlepen Maze, catch a ride on the historic Grapevine Vintage Railroad, or explore the area's history at Stockyards Museum or the Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Located in the heart of the Stockyards National Historic District, Stockyards Station exemplifies Texas by providing an exciting blend of old and new with Historic Walking Tours that visit the Texas Trail of Fame, The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and more, over 25 unique shops including a winery,art gallery and great restaurants that offer anything from ribs to enchiladas.
- Fort Worth Herd: Do you know that the Fort Worth Herd is the world’s only twice daily cattle drive?
- Hours: Don’t miss the twice daily cattle herds at 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.!
- Cowtown Cattlepen Maze: The Cowtown Cattlepen Maze is a unique form of entertainment for the entire family, group, or class field trip! With over 5,400 square feet of frequently changed wooden pathways, resembling the cattlepens of the old west, the maze is always a challenge!
- Hours: Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
- Admission: FREE with donations of $2 appreciated.
- Billy Bob’s Texas: Billy Bob's Texas is the world's largest honky-tonk. This place is huge (three acres!), with its own indoor rodeo arena for professional bull riding, a Texas-size dance floor, dozens of bar stations, plus restaurants, arcade games, a Wall of Fame with celebrity handprints, and a general store.
- Cowboy Hall of Fame: The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame pays tribute to over 70 cowboys and cowgirls. The museum is located in Barn A, in what was once the horse and mule barns in the Stockyards. For one, low admission fee – you’ll see six great exhibits, one of which is a children’s inter-active Exploratorium!

- Texas Trail of Fame: The Texas Trail of Fame was established in 1997 to honor those who have made a significant contribution to our Western way of life. Trail Guides are available at the Stockyards Visitor's information Center.
Recreation/Arts
- Bass Performance Hall: Bass Performance Hall is cited as the crown jewel of Sundance Square, which in itself represents one of the most successful downtown renovations in the nation. After dining at one of the wonderfully unique restaurants downtown, or before a visit to the museums or shops in Sundance Square, the perfect addition to a day downtown is a tour of Bass Performance Hall.
- AMC Palace Theater 9: Nine movie screens showing on the best Hollywood has to offer. The theater offers stadium seating, concession and advanced ticket sales. Subscribe to the Movie Watcher Program and collect points toward free concessions and movies.

- City Streets: Dallas-Fort Worth's greatest multi-venue entertainment complex offering four distinctly different clubs under one roof.

- Scat Jazz Lounge: Come visit the popular cabaret/jazz club in the historic Woolworth Building with a prime underground/basement location on Fourth Street. The "old school" decor of the club sets the perfect mood for listening to sounds of soothing, traditional jazz.

- Thomas Kinkade Gallery: Thomas Kinkade is America's most collected artist, a painter-communicator whose tranquil, light-infused paintings have delighted millions over the years. This gallery carries Kinkade's work exclusively and offers one of the most extensive collections, including originals, limited edition reproductions and gift items. It is also one of the few galleries in the world owned by Mr. Kinkade's company.

- Milan Gallery: A Fine Art Gallery representing local, national and international artists. Over 400 pieces of original artwork displayed.

- 150 Years of Fort Worth History: Traces Fort Worth's development, from its beginning as a frontier outpost, through its rowdy youth as a cattle town, to present day. Created by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, in cooperation with Sundance Square Management, L.P., the exhibit is housed in the historic Fire Station No. 1, which was built in 1907. It is located in the Wells Fargo Tower at the northeast corner of Second and Commerce streets

- Fort Worth Botanical Gardens: Enjoy the captivating beauty of the oldest botanic garden in Texas. Fort Worth's Botanic Gardens are home to more than 2500 species of plants.

- Fort Worth Zoo: Home to more than 500 species of animals, and its wide array of indoor and outdoor exhibits includes World of Primates, Asian Falls, Raptor Canyon, and Thundering Plains. Texas Wild! is a hands-on exhibit that teaches about the state's various regions. The Great Barrier Reef takes visitors to the mysterious waters of the Coral Sea. And, the zoo is home to the country’s most elite herpetarium, the Museum of Living Art (MOLA).
