Summer Scholars Course Options

Portland Summer Scholars will be offering in-person classes to support PPS High School students in recovering credit toward graduation. To the best of our ability and based on teacher availability, all classes needed for the PPS and Oregon diplomas will be offered. Courses will be taught at 4 Program HUBs:  Grant, Franklin, McDaniel, and Roosevelt High Schools. Summer Scholars will not be able to offer all courses at all locations and space will be limited.

HUB Locations

Transportation

All current Portland students are eligible to receive a Trimet pass covering the entire summer from their High School. Please see your school’s main office (or trimet.com/summerpass) for more information.

Calendar (all classes Mon-Fri)

Session 1: July 1 - July 19 (no class on July 4-5)

Session 2: July 22 - Aug 7

Class Times

9AM - 12PM daily, Monday - Friday

Fees

All fees for PPS Summer Scholars classes during Summer 2024 will be waived for PPS Students.

Tutoring

Based on staff availability, tutoring services may be available at Summer Scholars program locations.

Attendance

In the concentrated setting offered at Summer Scholars, each absence is equivalent to losing over a week of time during the regular school year. If your student will miss more than 3 days of class, it may be best to seek a different option to earn credit.

Enrollment Permissions

If you would like to have your student’s registration/enrollment removed from Summer Scholars, please reach out to us at khanson2@pps.net.

Enrollment Prioritization

Completion of Pre-Registration does not guarantee your seat in the class. We will continue to enroll students through the beginning of class, which may result in lower prioritized students being bumped from a class. Our prioritization process uses the students’ current grade level during the 2023-24 school year. Please note, Summer Scholars will not enroll students for Grade Improvement or Credit Advancement.

  1. PPS seniors
  2. PPS juniors - credit recovery
  3. PPS sophomores - credit recovery
  4. PPS freshmen - credit recovery
