General Questions

Question

Answer

What will the Online Learning Program (OLP) option look like for my student?

Students enrolled in the Online Learning Program (OLP) will complete all courses online, independently, using the Edgenuity curriculum. Students will maintain enrollment at their 2022-2023 selected school and will follow the SDUHSD Academic Calendar and Grade Reporting - Add/Drop Policies for their school of enrollment.

  • Students will experience weekly individual meetings, synchronous instruction, and *daily live interaction.
  • Students will complete work independently, via a combination of synchronous and asynchronous work time.
  • Students are assigned a credentialed Online Learning Program (OLP) Teacher to provide weekly virtual synchronous instruction, academic tutoring, small group support, and office hours.
  • Google Classroom and face-to-face interactions and/or meetings between parents, students, and teacher/counselor may be utilized for student support and weekly check-in opportunities.
  • Students will be paced to complete courses in alignment with the SDUHSD Academic Calendar and Grade Reporting - Add/Drop Policies for their 2022-2023 selected school of enrollment. While work is done independently, this is not an acceleration program.

*Daily live interaction is a requirement for middle school students only.

What courses will my student take?

Student course selection will be discussed at the student intake meeting upon enrollment in the Online Learning Program (OLP).

For middle school students:

All students selecting enrollment in the Online Learning Program (OLP) will be enrolled in a full schedule of 6 classes. Students will be enrolled in core academic courses including English, math, science, social science, and physical education. Students will have the opportunity to select an elective course, based on offerings available within Edgenuity.

*Edgenuity includes some courses that are UC approved.

What is “*live interaction”?

*Middle School Students Only

“Live interaction” means interaction between the student and school staff, and may include peers, provided for the purpose of maintaining school connectedness, including, but not limited to, wellness checks, progress monitoring, provision of services, and instruction. This interaction may take place online, by phone, or in person.

What is “synchronous” instruction?

“Synchronous instruction” means classroom-style instruction, or designated small-group or one-on-one instruction delivered in person or in the form of virtual or telephonic communications, involving live two-way communication between the teacher and student.

Satisfactory educational progress shall be determined based on all of the following indicators:

  • A student’s achievement and engagement performance in the Online Learning Program (OLP).
  • The completion of assignments, assessments, or other indicators that demonstrate performance.
  • Learning required concepts, as determined by the teacher.
  • Progress towards successfully completing the course of study, as determined by the teacher.

How is attendance taken?

Attendance for the Online Learning Program (OLP) is calculated by the amount of work completed each week, based on the work assigned. The time is assessed and verified by the teacher. Attendance is done weekly.

How much time will my student need to work in the Online Learning Program (OLP)?

What happens if my student misses work time?

There are no excused absences in the Online Learning Program (OLP). Students must attend their weekly appointments on time, with 100% of their assignments completed.

Student attendance is based on work completion and submission by the assigned due date. If a student misses their assigned weekly meeting and/or attends with incomplete work (less than 100% completed), absences will be assigned to the student based on the amount of work completed and submitted (equivalent to 5 school days for a missed meeting).

  • 1st Absence: Attendance Letter 1 = call and letter to parent/guardian
