What will the Online Learning Program (OLP) option look like for my student? | Students enrolled in the Online Learning Program (OLP) will complete all courses online, independently, using the Edgenuity curriculum. Students will maintain enrollment at their 2022-2023 selected school and will follow the SDUHSD Academic Calendar and Grade Reporting - Add/Drop Policies for their school of enrollment.
*Daily live interaction is a requirement for middle school students only. |
What courses will my student take? | Student course selection will be discussed at the student intake meeting upon enrollment in the Online Learning Program (OLP). For middle school students: All students selecting enrollment in the Online Learning Program (OLP) will be enrolled in a full schedule of 6 classes. Students will be enrolled in core academic courses including English, math, science, social science, and physical education. Students will have the opportunity to select an elective course, based on offerings available within Edgenuity.
For high school students: All students selecting enrollment in the Online Learning Program (OLP) will be enrolled in a full schedule of classes, based on the requirement for their 2022-2023 selected school of enrollment. Students will be enrolled in core academic courses and may have the opportunity to select an elective course, based on offerings available within Edgenuity. Student course schedules will be developed by reviewing the following:

What is “*live interaction”? *Middle School Students Only | “Live interaction” means interaction between the student and school staff, and may include peers, provided for the purpose of maintaining school connectedness, including, but not limited to, wellness checks, progress monitoring, provision of services, and instruction. This interaction may take place online, by phone, or in person. |
What is “synchronous” instruction? | “Synchronous instruction” means classroom-style instruction, or designated small-group or one-on-one instruction delivered in person or in the form of virtual or telephonic communications, involving live two-way communication between the teacher and student. |
How will educational progress be determined in my student’s courses? | Satisfactory educational progress shall be determined based on all of the following indicators:

How is attendance taken? | Attendance for the Online Learning Program (OLP) is calculated by the amount of work completed each week, based on the work assigned. The time is assessed and verified by the teacher. Attendance is done weekly. |
How much time will my student need to work in the Online Learning Program (OLP)? | Students enrolled in the Online Learning Program (OLP) are required to meet all attendance requirements. Students must work a minimum of 4 hours each day to meet these requirements (240 minutes per day), however, many courses will require work time above and beyond the minimum. |
What happens if my student misses work time? | There are no excused absences in the Online Learning Program (OLP). Students must attend their weekly appointments on time, with 100% of their assignments completed. Student attendance is based on work completion and submission by the assigned due date. If a student misses their assigned weekly meeting and/or attends with incomplete work (less than 100% completed), absences will be assigned to the student based on the amount of work completed and submitted (equivalent to 5 school days for a missed meeting).

How can I monitor my student’s attendance in the Online Learning Program (OLP)? |

Where can I see my student’s grades if they are enrolled in the Online Learning Program (OLP)? | Student grades and academic progress can be monitored in Edgenuity and in Aeries. Grading periods and D/F notifications will be consistent with the SDUHSD Academic Calendar and Grade Reporting - Add/Drop Policies for the student’s 2022-2023 selected school of enrollment |
Will there be in-person learning opportunities? | Students may have opportunities for face-to-face interactions when possible (i.e.small group intervention, in-person tutoring, or other support opportunities). Additionally, face-to-face interactions and/or meetings between parents, students, and teacher/counselor may be required for student support and weekly check-in opportunities. |
Can my student accelerate coursework while enrolled in the Online Learning Program (OLP)? | No; all courses are paced with the SDUHSD Academic Calendar and Grade Reporting - Add/Drop Policies. |
My student receives support from an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). Are they eligible to participate in the Online Learning Program (OLP)? | Students receiving support from an IEP may participate in the Online Learning Program (OLP) as long as their IEP indicates the Online Learning Program (OLP) as an appropriate FAPE option for the student (i.e. the team agrees that the student can receive educational benefits from the Online Learning Program (OLP)). If you are interested in the Online Learning Program (OLP) for your student on an IEP, please proceed with enrollment through the designated form (see Enrollment Questions) and your student’s IEP team will reach out to schedule an IEP meeting accordingly. |
My student has an active 504 plan. Are they eligible to participate in the Online Learning Program (OLP)? | Yes; students with an active 504 are eligible to participate in the Online Learning Program (OLP). The student’s 504 plan will be discussed at the student success intake meeting upon enrolment in the Online Learning Program (OLP). |
Can my student participate in school clubs and athletics at their school site of enrollment? | Yes; students enrolled in the Online Learning Program (OLP) may participate in school clubs and athletics, should they meet academic and behavior requirements. |
Will my 8th or 12th-grade student be eligible to promote or graduate from their 22-23 school of enrollment? | Yes; eligible 8th & 12th-grade students enrolled in the Online Learning Program (OLP) may participate in promotion or graduate from their 22-23 school of enrollment. Eligible graduating 12th-grade students will receive an SDUHSD diploma. Additionally, eligible 8th & 12th-grade students enrolled in the Online Learning Program (OLP) may participate in all end-of-year or senior activities. |

When can a student enroll in the Online Learning Program (OLP) | Students are encouraged to enroll in the Online Learning Program (OLP) before the beginning of the school year, or before the start of the 2nd semester. Current SDUHSD students may enroll in the OLP anytime during a semester/quarter until the end of the Add/Drop window for their Home School, should space in the program be available. Students new to SDUHSD may enroll in the OLP upon enrollment in the district, should space in the program be available. |

What if my student wants to return to in-person learning during the term? | Parents/guardians and students will be asked to select Online Learning Program (OLP) enrollment for one of the following timeframes:
Students may choose to transition back to in-person learning at the semester. A parent/guardian and student conference may be held to discuss student success and appropriate placement, based on Online Learning Program (OLP) attendance, academic, and/or social-emotional concerns. |
