iChildCare Portal Instructions

  1. Visit https://ichildcare.wisconsin.gov/ and click “create a logon” to create an account in the iChildCare portal to begin the background check process.
  2. Add Personal Details -- provide all information with an *, selecting Student Teacher as the Primary Role
  3. Review the Modify Personal Details to ensure accuracy and click ‘Save and Continue’

  1. Complete the Background Request Form questions, clicking ‘Next’ to move through questions.  NOTE:  if you answer ‘yes’ to any of the questions on the Background Request Form, please provide the additional information requested, as well as monitor your email for requests from DCF for clarification or additional information

  1. Once all questions have been answered, type your electronic signature in the Electronic Signature box and click ‘Submit’

  1. Once you have submitted your Background Request form, you will receive your Fingerprint Code information.  Click  ‘Generate Code’ to receive your personal fingerprint code which will not only provide you with instructions for scheduling your fingerprint appointment, but also your personalized fingerprint code.  NOTE:  If you are under age 18, the fingerprint code will not populate at this time as you are unable to complete fingerprinting.  

  1. After completing your Background Check Request form and your fingerprint appointment if over 18 years of age, monitor your iChildCare account.  Your letter of eligibility will be under the ‘Communications’ tab on the Home page.  Once your eligibility letter is completed, click ‘View’ to access and print your letter.  You will need to submit your letter in Student Services, via fax at 262-564-2801, or email to admissionsoffice@gtc.edu
