Election & Campaign rules Fall 2023
Please carefully read the election and campaign rules. Upon submitting your completed application, you are ensuring that you have read and agree to comply with all election and campaign rules. Failure to follow SGA Election Rules and Procedures may result in removal from the election.
Election rules
- Candidates must be enrolled as a student.
- Candidates for the President or Vice President position must have completed thirty (30) GBC credit hours and previously held the position of Senator or another executive office for one term.
- Candidates must attend at least two (2) SGA meetings prior to the election date.
- Meetings are held every regular Friday at 11 AM PST. To join, please use the following Zoom link.
- Candidates are asked to prepare and present a speech to SGA, prior to the elections. Speeches must not exceed five minutes per candidate.
Campaign rules
*Rules are subject to change, due to COVID-19 precautions and guidelines.
Each candidate must limit his/her campaign expenditures to $100.00. If asked by the Election Committee, the candidate must provide receipts/expense accounts. SGA funds are not to be used to endorse/fund any of the candidates.
- SGA computers, SGA office equipment, SGA office supplies, or any GBC campus/center printing machines are not to be used for preparing campaign materials.
- All campaign materials, banners, signs, posters, etc. must be approved by Student Advocate (Elko – Chantell Garcia or Ryan Hathaway)
- No alcohol, explicit sexual material, or drug paraphernalia may be used on campaign materials or in campaign speeches.
- Any candidate or candidate affiliate found to be defacing or removing any candidates’ campaign materials may result in disqualifying the candidate and/or disciplinary procedures.
- Each Candidate is responsible for removing all his/her campaign materials. By 5 PM the day after the election.
- Campaigning (physical, verbal, electronic, or printed) is not allowed within 15 feet of the voting area on election days.
- The SGA Student Advocate or GBC Center Election Committee Representative will designate registration and voting locations.
