Welcome to Our Newest Majors: ​Braxton Brownlee - Geol​, and Charles White - Geol​. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can best support you with your goals. (Geol=Geology major, AEG=Applied Environmental Geosciences major, EST=Earth Science Teaching major).

New College of Science Scholarships:The College of Science is pleased to announce the new Jim S. Bateman Scholarships, which will support students in financial need who also show exceptional potential or achievement in one or more of the following: academic performance; undergraduate research; community service/outreach; or overcoming significant life obstacles. Multiple scholarships (up to $4000) will be awarded. The application deadline is Monday, April 17. You may apply even if you have already been awarded a college or departmental scholarship for next year. Detailed instructions and a flyer are attached.

Golden Spike Gem & Mineral Society Hosts 66th Annual Gemstone Junction This Weekend: The Golden Spike Gem and Mineral Society is hosting their 66st Gemstone Junction annual event Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 7 through April 9 at the Golden Spike Event Center located at the Weber County Fairgrounds, 1000 N. 1200 W., Ogden. This annual spring event provides fun for the entire family. There will be exhibits, lapidary demonstrations, and over 25 dealers selling all things rock related - including two displays from our Department that Sara Summers & Amanda Gentry set up! Friday, the event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A flyer is attached.

Geology Club Meeting at Gemstone Junction: Our Geology Club will meet at the Gemstone Junction tomorrow, Saturday, April 8, at 3:00-pm. They also will be conducting a silent auction there this weekend, with materials provided by club members! Mr. Bones also will be on hand with his famous dinosaur puppets. If you'd like more information, please contact Tiffany Snider at tiffanysnider@mail.weber.edu.

Science Hike (Two Days to Choose From): Amanda Gentry, WSU Geosciences alum, will be leading two hikes to talk about how the Wasatch Front formed and the unique geology that lies in everyone's backyards! All ages are invited. It will be an hour and a half light walk/talk around the Rainbow Gardens area. Both hikes will present the same information. Hike 1: Wednesday, April 19th 5:00-6:30 pm; Hike 2: Saturday April 22nd, 8:00-9:30 am. For more information, please feel welcome to contact Amanda at amandagentry@weber.edu.

Department Awards Ceremony: Please join us for the Department of Geosciences Awards Ceremony on April 17, 5pm, TY 102. We'll enjoy some great food, and present the departmental graduate awards and 2017-2018 scholarships. Please see the attached flyer for full information. GIS Intern Position: AgReserves, Inc. is a multi-national, multi-corporate company that operates investment farms and ranches throughout the world. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience using GIS and working in a professional and active atmosphere. The successful applicant would work approximately 40 hours a week for up to 6 months in our Salt Lake office. Please see the attached flyer.

YMCA STEM & Specialty Summer Day Camps at Weber State: ​​YMCA will be offering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering $ Math), and Specialty (Theater & Arts) Day Camps at WSU. The dates are June 5-August 11, for children ages 5-15. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

The Weber State Geosci​ences Department​'s​ Showcases at the Golden Spike ​Gem & Mineral Society's Gemstone Junction that is being held this weekend. The Hidden Minerals case shows what minerals are used to make various everyday objects.
