BOE Presentation of the 2017-2018 Budget

Budget season is here and NOW is the time to get involved. Dr. Colleen Palmer has proposed the budget for the 2017-18 school year; you can access it by clicking here. If you have an opinion about any programs or issues, join the Board of Education this Friday, January 6th beginning at 8:30am at the Westport Library for an all day work session that is open to the public and/or contact the Board of Ed (boe@westport.k12.ct.us).

SES Ice Skating Party!

Have you recently mastered the double axel-Lutz-triple toe loop combination* and just been waiting to show it off? Well, your time has come! Join us on Sunday, January 29th from 5:00-7:00pm at the Longshore Ice Rink for the annual SES Skating Party! Tickets cost $13 in advance or $15 at the door so CLICK HERE TO ORDER NOW! Deadline for advance ticket sales is Friday, January 27th, so do not delay. (Price includes skate rentals.) Event will be rain or shine and is NOT a drop-off event! Helmets (bike or ski work) are strongly encouraged, especially if you plan to attempt the above. Contact Alex Cirasuolo (alexcirasuolo@optonline.net) or Samantha Kempster (skempster@gmail.com) with questions.

*The Scoop admits to knowing nothing about skating. This move was completely made up and is probably not even possible.

Fifth Grade Rise & Read

It’s one week from today, fifth graders… finally your turn! Join us on Wednesday, January 11th at 7:30am for a special “Scavenger Hunt Rise & Read.” We’re asking the parents from Ms. Mack’s and Ms. Gerner’s classes to SIGN-UP HERE to donate nut-free breakfast snacks and drinks for this session. Please note: any fifth grader participating in the Scavenger Hunt MUST have an adult with them!

Last Call! Science Lab Materials Needed

Did your family drink any soda this break? Dr. Kathie Moskovitz, our awesome science guru, is in need of clear, empty, 2-liter bottles for a science activity in early January. Have some to donate? Please send them in with your child(ren)!

Got Coffee [Pods]?

Did you know that the hard working funds of the PTA have previously purchased a Keurig brewing system for our teachers and staff? Now we could use some help keeping them stocked with coffee (regular and decaf), hot chocolate and tea! Do you have some extra pods at home? Or could you grab some at Bed, Bath and Beyond with one of those many coupons sitting in your wallet? Any contributions for our coffee drive are welcome; please drop them off in the main office. Let's keep our teachers and staff caffeinated and warm as we start the new year! Contact Lauren MacNeill (winstonlb@optonline.net) or Cheryl Cusa (cpetrino@yahoo.com) with questions.

What’s for Lunch?

You can find January’s menu HERE.

👉 Don’t forget…

Quote of the Week

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're doing something.” - Neil Gaiman
