Rules and Modifications

Format

‒ Rules Basis: NFHS Field Hockey
‒ Weather Guidelines: NYSPHSAA/Section VI

‒ Goggles optional
‒ No jewelry

‒ Long hit from 18 yards
‒ 1v1 modification for penalty corners
    ‒ After 4 corners with GK is 1v1
    ‒ After 6 corners without GK is automatic goal

‒ High school team entries accepted in available divisions
    ‒ Eligible players are grad classes 2024-2030; or annually, entering fall academic calendar, as rising grades 12th-6th

‒ Limit of 18 players per team; any position

‒ Players may only participate with one team; any variation of the 18 rostered players may play for their team in any game

‒ Players must participate with their high school, or associated middle school if rising 6th-8th; no exception

     ‒ Amendment: Within roster rules, high school teams may combine with at least 4 players from the same high school if none of the combining high schools are otherwise represented

‒ Ineligible rosters are subject to forfeit

‒ Teams may participate with or without GK
‒ Teams are required to play shorthanded if not enough players attend for any given game

‒ Pool play

‒ 7v7 (6 + GK), or 7 + No GK/No Cones, or 6 + No GK/Cones
    ‒ With cones goal scored on ground between cone/post or

     lifted above board

‒ 25 minute matches
‒ No halftime or team timeouts

‒ Standings:
    1. Win = 3 points
    2. Tie = 1 point
    3. Loss = 0 points

‒ Standings tiebreakers:
    1. Points
    2. Head-to-Head result(s)
    3. Goal differential (goals scored minus goals allowed)
    4. Goals scored
    5. Goals allowed
    6. Coin toss

‒ Team listed first is home, wearing white uniform and socks
‒ Team listed second is away, wearing dark uniform and socks

‒ Forfeitures, or no-shows, will result in a 0-1 loss for the team forfeiting, or a 0-0 tie if both teams forfeit

‒ Cancellations not rescheduled will result in a 0-0 tie

Additional Information

Registration:

‒ Call for team registration

‒ Team payment secures spot; only one payment per team

‒ If none of the combining high schools are represented

     ✔ Alden-Depew: 10 players from Alden + 4 players from Depew

     ✔ Alden-Depew-Lockport: 4 Alden + 4 Depew + 4 Lockport

     ✖ Alden-Lockport: 3 Alden + 10 Lockport

‒ Individuals or small groups may submit interest for a house team; house teams not guaranteed and space is limited

‒ Competition and/or rain dates may be adjusted as necessary

‒ Team schedule will be posted once team registrations are final

‒ League reserves right to finalize all league decisions at any time

Roster:

‒ Upon schedule completion, team organizer will receive link to website to enter rosters

‒ All player waivers for all rostered players must be submitted prior to first scheduled date of competition; no exceptions

Uniforms:

‒ Teams required to have matching white and dark uniform tops and white and dark socks; numbered uniform tops preferred

Summer League Coach:

‒ Is not required to be the current varsity coach, a current school district coach, or a certified school district coach

‒ If at least one adult associated with the summer league team is not the current varsity coach or a current school district coach, it is recommended to discuss entry in the summer league with the current school coach or coaches

‒ Any adult may coach or assist/manage a summer league team

‒ May be a high school booster club member and/or any individual parent, group of parents, or invested adult(s)

‒ Must take responsibility for the summer league team and the team's management, organization, and communication

‒ Coaches may change from week to week and are not required to have field hockey experience
