IB Senior English Summer Project

Welcome to IB Senior English!  The first book we will study in 2009-10 is the popular memoir This Boy’s Life.  Please check one out from the bookroom or purchase your own copy.  In order to make the time and effort we spend on this book the most effective and rewarding, you will be required to read it during the summer.  The assigned activity has three phases:

  1. Find a passage that shows a narrative sequence of events with a distinct beginning and end.  Either type or photocopy the passage for class.  Cite the page number(s).  In addition, there should be some kind of theme related to the events such as making a friend, showing a secret, etc.

  1. Write a narrative draft about your own life that represents the same theme as the passage you choose from This Boy’s Life (1000-1200 words, typed, 12 point font, double spaced).

  1. Make a cover that expresses the theme artistically.

Be ready to discuss your passage on Tuesday, September 8th.

Be ready to share your narrative draft and cover art as early as Friday, September 11.  Have a safe and fun summer!  See you in the fall.
