How to Read the Bible

Lots of people want to read the Bible.  Some want to read it because they are curious about what they will find.  Others want to read it because they want to see if Christians really practice what the Bible teaches.

Some Christians want to read it because they feel like they are supposed to.  Other may want to read it because even after years of being in church they have never read the book for themselves.  Finally you may want to read it just to see what all the fuss is about.

Whatever the reasons for your desire, this class is designed to help you put those desires into actions by giving you the tools and background to actually read, understand and apply scripture.

This class is perfect for those getting started in the Bible or for those who have read for years but want to improve their ability to understand or teach the Bible.

Here are a few of the questions that we will explore:

What is the Bible?

How do I use it?

How do I study the Bible on my own? Or in a group?

What should I read first?

Is it true? (and how can we know?)

How was it written?

Are these letters written to me?

How do I make sense of a parable?

Does this history matter?

Why don’t the Jesus stories (gospels) always agree?

Can Revelation ever make sense?

Special Note: Please bring a Bible. If you don’t have one, you can get one for free at the first session. If you have any other questions, please contact Ethan Magness or Mary Bach at 410-877-1824.
