STAGE 2 – Determine Acceptable Evidence
‘What evidence will determine understanding?’
Assessment Tasks – To Assess for Deep Understanding
Assessment for learning (ways you will establish what students already know about the unit and differentiate their individual learning needs) * see http://cms.curriculum.edu.au/assessment/default.asp
Mind Map: Students will use ActivExpression to send in a text response to the question: "What do you think it means to be Australian?" Once the responses have been sent in, students will discuss and group the responses using the 5 senses graphic organiser (looks like, feels like, sounds like, smells like, tastes like) on the ActivBoard (interactive whiteboard). Students will then group the same responses into the following categories; 'lifestyle', 'beliefs & values', 'climate' and'society' on the ActivBoard. A copy of both graphic organisers will be printed and also uploaded to Moodle.
Assessment of learning (at conclusion of inquiry). Attach a separate culminating written assessment task and rubric based on the Quality Teaching Framework).

Student Self Assessment and Reflection
Assessment as learning (throughout the study: Developing students’ metacognition and encouraging them to personally monitor what they are learning and use the feedback from this monitoring to make adjustments, adaptations and even major changes in what they understand). E.g personal blog, assessment rubric discussions etc.
Blog: Students will keep a personal blog. This is an online journal where they will respond to questions throughout the topic encouraging students to critical thinking about national and personal identity, and social cohesion. Students will also be required to comment on a peer’s blog.
