The meeting was called to order at 7pm by Kelly Kroon, President

 

New Member to our guild – Linda Bessler

 

The minutes from August and the treasurer’s report were formally approved.  Shirley handed out the By-Laws for the guild to those that did not have a copy.

 

Hostesses were Sherri Enke and Ruth Ann Gundrum             

Next month’s hostesses are Lynn Butler and Jane Weis

September 2009 Lecture/Workshops – Update

• Cost for the lecture $1,504.34
• Income for the lecture $1,365.00

Susan Cleveland Lecture/Workshop – September 2010

• September 24 and 25
• Trunk show on Friday evening, September 24
• Workshop – Saturday, September 25 – Piping Hot Binding
• Tentative Workshop – it was decided by the guild to have Linda Kirby see if Susan Cleveland would do another workshop on Friday, September 24 – Macaroni-Working with Curves. (This would be an additional $425 to the cost of the weekend)
• Publicity Committee – Jayne Gilbertson, Kris Scharfenberg, June Behnke, and Donna Marisch have volunteered to be on the committee----Thanks to each of you.  Also, if you would like to help them with any part, please let them know.  I know they would appreciate any additional help

 

Christmas Party – Monday, December 14^th at 6pm at St Johns Lutheran Church in Reedsburg

 

Quilt Show Update – by Deb Ekes

• Standards are just about completed – see last month’s minutes for more info on these
• Quilt Show Ribbons – the top will be a paper pieced “quilt” and the bottom will be the ribbons – in red, white, blue, pink, and yellow.  Watch the “blog” for further info on these and how you might help
• Quilt show categories can be found on the “blog”
• Quilts entered in the show cannot have been entered in one of our previous shows
• Judging of Quilts – you can have your quilt judged.  You will receive a “critique” sheet and it is a very good learning experience
• Appraisals – there will be quilt appraising also

 

 

Raffle Quilt Update – by Shirley Alexander

• Fabrics have been selected – fall leaves/fall colors
• LaVonne is attending the class that is being held at QQ on the pattern that we are making.
• Goal is to have it done by the end of 2009
• Sew Days for the raffle quilt are scheduled for
  • Tuesday, November 10
  • Monday, November 16

(These will be cutting days)  Please let Jane Weiss know if you can help out, if you have not already signed up.

                                         

Fat Quarter drawing – June Behnke won the October drawing for the Brown Fat Quarters

Appliqué Demo by Shirley Alexander:  Shirley demonstrated the techniques of Karen Kay Buckley.  Shirley showed how to make “Perfect” Circles, “Perfect” Stems, and “Perfect” Shapes.  She used Magic Sizing and a paint brush.  She also used the following Karen Kay Buckley products – Perfect Circle and Perfect Stems.

 

Elroy Quilt Show – November 28, 2009 – They are having an Ugly Fabric Challenge using the same fabric as QQ used for the “Airing of the Quilts” Ugly Fabric Challenge.  So, bring your challenge to our next guild meeting and we will have them entered in the quilt show.

 

Open Sew Days – 10am to 4pm----Please let Linda Kirby know ahead of time if you plan to be there

Tip of the Month

• Karen Gutzman -Pattern for an “Eco” Bag ----quilters can always use an extra bag or two.  Whether it is to carry your groceries or maybe some …..fabric?, or to use when going to a quilting class
• Deb Ekes – you can use parchment paper as a pressing cloth
