Black and White and Crayon Challenge Rules
(or as Deb C. likes to say, A Place to Start)
Ok, Ladies, here goes…a written explanation of what I outlined at the meeting, with a few tweaks and additions:
-
Use fabrics that match the color of your two crayons (supplied by Kelly. If you did not get crayons and would like to be part of this challenge, let Kelly know)
-
Add as many black and white fabrics as you care
-
Finished size, up to a 160" perimeter maximum (a 40" x 40" would be 160" perimeter, so would a 20" x 60"). There is no minimum size. If your piece is a little bigger than this, don’t worry. The quilt police won’t arrive at your house and dull your rotary blades or perform other horrible tortures. This is to be fun, not stressful. We’re just not expecting a full-size quilt here.
-
Accessories, such as table runners, purses, vests, etc. are welcome, as are things like dolls.
-
Have your piece completed (ok, just the quilt top is fine, just make sure you have it quilted by the quilt show!) by the May, 2010 meeting. Don’t forget to put your challenge piece in your totebag and bring it to the meeting! Oh, don’t forget to bring your crayons, too. They will be displayed with your quilt.
-
We’ll display the pieces at the May meeting and do Viewer’s Choice voting among the Guild members for the winner. I’m not sure of the prize yet, but I’m thinking I’ll dust off one of my Longaberger baskets to give to the winner. Maybe there’ll be a second and third place, too.
-
We’ll have a special display of these challenges at our quilt show in October, 2010.
-
Above all, have fun, and maybe, stretch yourself a little!
