Information Package
This camp has something for everyone! From the youngest wanderer to parents and grandparents, there are activities, games, learning and fun to take part in. Get ready for a great time!
Note: You must be registered in advance in order to attend this camp!
Camp Schedule
Friday evening
8:00PM Camp officially opens
Introductions
All-weekend scavenger hunt begins
Evening sessions to choose from:

Knife Safety Challenge (Show Tony that you know your stuff, and earn a certificate)

Evening paddle
-
Wanderer crafts (Twiggy Tent)
-
Time for ML Adventurers to finish moccasin project
Later: Relax around the campfire, sing some songs, tell some stories
Saturday
6:30 Earlybird nature hike (for whoever is up for it!)
8:00 Breakfast (your own)
9:00 Twiggy Tent opens
9:30 Everyone should be there by now. Introductions, icebreakers, camp rules, emergency plan, administration
10:00 Sessions begin.
(There will be signup sheets for sessions. You will be able to take in 3 or more of these. Some sessions are more suitable for certain ages)

A variety of activities just for Wanderers (preschool) and Pathfinders – Ecology hike, scavenger hunt, crafts, fire starters, rock painting, origami & beach time!

2-hour hikes with park naturalist into recent forest fire area (TB & up)
-
Archery (PF & up, parental assistance needed for younger participants)
-
Walking stick carving (TB & up, parental assistance needed for younger participants, prior experience with a knife recommended)
-
Bear awareness (All ages)
-
Blowdarts – a challenging new skill-and-knowledge testing game (All ages)
-
Survival skills demonstration & hands-on fire-lighting skills (PF, TB)
-
Bannock-making (All ages)
-
Campfire cooking (TB)
-
Badge Challenge – Wardens can try to earn their Bronze Badge (All ages) and Forestry Badge (PF & TB)
-
Our 'Twiggy Tent' is open Friday evening until Sunday AM – crafts for the younger kids
-
Canoes are available for free-time use, and there are a number of people on hand who can give lessons

9:00 – Og's Hunt (Test your skills at a variety of 'weapons')
Finish up Wanderer & Pathfinder crafts
11:00 - Scavenger Hunt ends – prizes awarded!
12:00 – Lunch (your own), checking of badge lists, cleanup, tear-down, pack-up, official closing, farewell to those who have a long way to go
Afternoon: Hiking, canoing, frisbeeing, relaxing;
Your assistance is appreciated:

Cooking: The 'head cook' (Audrey) would appreciate the following:
-
A few parents to help with Saturday lunch & supper & Sunday breakfast

Someone with a pickup to haul the big grille and BBQs there & back
-
Wardens to help with chores at each meal
-
Prompt registrations so the right amount of groceries can be bought
-
Setup & teardown: There is a lot to do Friday afternoon, hauling trailers & gear, setting up tents & equipment & getting organized. And we have to take it all down & haul it away on Sunday!

Safety & supervision: This is a family camp, and since in JFW we're 'one big family', let's all look out for each other's kids and assist each other wherever we can. Let's also leave the park cleaner than we found it.

Please bring:

A friend! This is a great time to introduce someone new to JFW. Please register them along with your family, and have their parents fill out a waiver (see email attachment or our website)

Any reference books you may have (insects, birds, tracks, plants, etc.)

Notebook, pencils

Drinking water

Food:

A side dish or dessert for the potluck supper Saturday night;

Whatever you want to cook for your own family for Friday supper, Saturday breakfast & Sunday lunch;

Snacks & drinks for your family (drink lots of water all weekend!)

Canoe paddles if you have

Life jackets/PFDs if you have or can borrow (make sure they fit!).

If you have extra life jackets that you can share, that would be terrific. We want to make sure everyone gets a chance to canoe.

Dip-nets, kites, binoculars, cameras, magnifying glasses, sketch book, note book...

Your own camping gear & shelter (Tent, RV, whatever)

Mug for juice, tea, etc

Plates & utensils

Clothing for all weather (hot, cold, windy, rainy, snowy)

The 'Itch' is present in this lake at times. If you are susceptible, you may want to bring your favourite remedy.
