The Authoritarians, Bob Altermeyer, here's the homepage.
Pale Yellow Dot, Amara Graps (from Cosmos magazine)

Underway

Life Inc, Douglas Rushkoff (August 2009) (I asked Douglas for access to an electronic copy and he gave me that free, which he will do for anyone who asks, just email him) -- good ideas
    - as a companion to Life Inc (maybe a nice introduction to it?), the talk by Douglas Rushkoff in this episode of the Media Squat.
Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand (no link, but torrents are widely available) -- not exactly enjoying it, but glad I'm reading it. Interesting. I understand more why this philosophy appeals to techies on the Autism spectrum.
Epoch, Cory Doctorow (Audio, reading in podcast) - Not quite finished, damned cool story!

Finished

Little Brother, Cory Doctorow (April 2009)
Diaspora, Greg Egan (March 2009) was a reread
Here Comes Everybody, Clay Shirky (paper book) (March 2009) - goddamn it where is an electronic version of this? So annoying! Brilliant book, everyone should read it!
How To Fund A Startup, Paul Graham (September 2009) - great, long article on the world of startups. California centric
30 something and over it, Casey Edwards (paper book) (September 2009) - Interesting, kinda old news, but some level of catharsis :-)
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide (Sep-Oct 2009) -- wow, you forget how good Douglas Adams is. I feel as though he was building up to his really great work. RIP. btw, I found the fourth book to be my favourite, probably helps to be in love :-)
The Makers, Cory Doctorow (July - November 2009) -- Great, but I'm not sure about the ending. I also have reservations about this in a sci-fi context; for all the possibilities, it felt as though the tech never really shaped the world in which it was placed, see Charlie Stross for criticism of this (http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2009/10/why_i_hate_star_trek.html).

On Pause

Voyage of the Beagle, Charles Darwin  (started april 2009) -- got bogged down, he goes into detail about bugs and stuff (jodie says "bugged down")
Walden, Henry David Thoreau (started may 2009) (the idea of reading this was a birthday gift from Jodie, ty darling!) -- he's a ranting maniac, would be a forum troll today
Google App Engine Docs (started march 2009) -- will come back when I start building something in earnest
Free: The Future of a Radical Price (Chris Anderson) (Audio version) (July 2009) -- too businessy for my taste, but good I guess
One Magic Square, Lolo Houbein (Sep 2009) -- yes, I'm trying to garden. LOL!

Abandoned

Postsingular, Rudy Rucker (didn't click with it)
Python in a nutshell, 2nd ed (paper) (started april 2009) -- too boring, reference book.
Linux in a nutshell, 5th ed (paper) (started march 2009) -- too boring, reference book.
