Organisational Information: Task 12D1.

Issue statement:

How do policy decisions and community values influence the quality of life and health outcomes of potential organ and tissue recipients?

Task Information:

Stimulus:

Potential Australian transplant recipients are a unique group whose improvement of health relies on the death of another person, and that person's planning for death whilst still alive.  The rate of organ donation in Australia is dependent on both policy decisions and development of community values, which inform planning for death.

Task:

Present conclusions on how current specific policy directions influence community values in regards to organ and tissue donation.  (To allow depth of thought and evaluation in your response, focus on one specific policy direction.  Policy directions can refer to government policy, official health promotion campaigns or perceived official agendas).

Directions:

Your blog posts must:

  1. Clearly present your conclusions.
  2. Validate your conclusions.  This could include any of the following;
    • Argument supporting identification of a specific relationship between policy, community values and organ and tissue donation.
    • Exploration of a specific relationship and its impact on end of life planning.
    • Discussions about the significance of the identified policy direction as an effective enabler of organ and tissue donation.
    • Discussions about the significance of the identified policy direction as a barrier to organ and tissue donation
    • Clearly evaluating the policy or action against an existing Health Promotion framework.
    • Distinguishing use of supportive evidence.
  3. Respond to comments and questions relevant to exam posts during the exam week by;
    • Further supporting your conclusions
    • Debating with opposing points of view
    • Directing readers to other sources of evidence
  4. Accurately link to all cited evidence.

Your comments on others’ blogs must:

  1. Clearly demonstrate your understanding of the conclusions they are presenting.
  2. Encourage further entries by either;
    1. Disagreeing with their conclusions,
    2. Linking to similar articles or blogposts, or
    3. Directing them to a response on your blog.

Examples of evidence could include:

    • Primary data (surveys, interviews, case studies etc)
    • Secondary data (statistics, reports, white papers, etc)
    • Policies (national and international)
    • Cultural characteristics
    • Predictions of barriers to sudden increase in donation
    • Health Education Virtual Classroom
    • Blogs

Examples of community values could include:

    • End of life planning
    • Beliefs / religion
    • Perceptions of international policy
    • Family relationships
    • Perceived value of organ and tissue donation
    • Community awareness
    • Age of consent
