WHAT IS THE NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE? (5 minutes)

• Responsible for putting together a monthly newsletter that covers all three tenants of our club: service, leadership, and fellowship

HOW DOES THE NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE WORK? (10 minutes)

• No journalism experience necessary.
• There are currently five different positions. You can hold more than one position at a time, and there is no application process.
• Staff writer
• Photographer
• Photo editor
• Section Editor
• Layout editor
• A month is usually:
• 1^st week – Assign articles and photos
• During committee meetings and on the Google document
• 2^nd week – Assign layouts
• During committee meetings and on the Google document
• 3^rd week – Work day
• 4^th week – Committee proofreading
• There will be bi-monthly Newsletter socials!
• Tentatively Sunday, September 27
• Interested: Morgan, Ari, Iris, Claire, Keiko, Wesley, Veronica, Jason, Joyce, Jonamir, Tara

POSITIONS (15 minutes)

• You can hold MORE than one position at a time.
• All positions (except Section Editor) are flexible, meaning you can write articles/take photos/design layouts any time you want!

• Staff Writer
• Articles are usually due 2-3 days after the event.
• Interested: Iris, Morgan, Ari, Claire, Sooyun, Keiko, Wesley, Vincent, Tiffany O., Tara, Jonamir, Monica
• Photographer
• If you don’t own a camera, cameras will be provided for you.
• Interested: Joyce, Veronica, Keiko, Jason, Ari, Vincent, Tiffany O., Josh
• Photo Editor
• Responsible for going on Facebook, DotPhoto, or Flickr and finding pictures for articles
• Responsible for adjusting the contrast and brightness of photos
• Interested: Joyce, Veronica, Keiko
• Section Editor
• Responsible for editing first drafts and final layouts
• Interested: Vincent, Claire, Wesley, Tiffany O., Tara
• Layout Designer
• Responsible for designing layout pages
• Requires Adobe InDesign. CS4 is recommended.
• You will usually have 5 days to complete your layouts.
• Interested: Morgan (needs CS4 for Mac), Jason (needs CS4 for Mac), Vincent (needs CS4), Veronica (needs CS4 for PC), Tara (needs CS4 for Mac)
• I will be passing out sample articles and “How To” guides for photographers, photo editors, section editors, and staff writers next week.

QUESTIONS

• Veronica: If I sign up to be a layout designer, do I have to stick to it every month?
• Nope – it’s up to you. If you’re really busy one month, you can choose not to design a page. Or, if you want to do more than one, you are more than welcome to.
• Ari: Do you have to commit to a single committee? What if I want to do Scrapbook?
• Nope – you can join multiple committees.
